Five days into it and it is almost over with index moving across the other 7 main data centers.
So far, 7 days into this PRE-DANCE:
The SJ data has not started to migrate to the other 7 main data centers. FI not included.
I have not seen sj results show up on www in over 3 days now.
www2 and www3 all are pointed to the IP of sj.
I've seen it mentioned that we have been privy to a part of the dance we normally don't see and I would be inclined to agree with that.
I don't think we will see the real dance start for a couple days at least. It's not a real dance anyway until all the data is applied, so I think we are all going to see a big shift from what the SJ server is showing and what will actually be in the index.
I find it funny that GoogleGuy has disappeared. I think they rolled out the new algo to get our opinions. Most searchers don't bother to fill out a satisfaction report. They just go somewhere else. In that respect, Google has a great asset in this community because they sure got a lot of feedback about what was on the SJ server. I think when the dance really starts in earnest, we'll see GoogleGuy show up again.
Anyway, back to work adding content for the next deep crawl

Yes, you're alive.
This whole thing reaks of an "end-around". Wacked-out dance, we're freaking, other SEs are freaking, spammers are freaking, then "BAM", killer new index & Deepcrawl starts immediately.
Cheap way to incorporate some automatic spam elimination. If no one has time to optimize after results, who sticks? Solid sites that were cleanly optimized in the first place.
The first page is full of sites that redirect to other search result pages. There are also several pages that don't even have the keyword anywhere but in the title - not exactly top on relevancy.
I'm relaxed - I'm sure they're still playing with the data, and there are many more changes to come.
Right now on www. my site is #5 which is where I want it to be.
with 175 pages listed.
mean while over in the lands of -sj -fi www2 & www3
I am way back on the 4th page, with only 2 pages listed.
I can't wait to see what's gonna happen, and I am too happy this is not my job I am playing with.
Yes you are correct I think. The average punter is going to search for "widgit" - through google, yahoo, dogpile etc. and what he/she expects to find is a good answer to the widget question.
The punter doesn't really care where the info comes from so long as it's a good answer - and if google can't give them a good answer that they will go somewhere else.
So if the google update is bad for 50 % thej it must be good for the other 50%, and if it's not then the punters will go somewhere else (i.e. another SE ) to get the info they need.
So GoogleGuy do you agree with my brief business plan?
all the months of google updates that he has lived through must finally be getting the best of him... would anybody probably.
pontification (yawn) follows:
lets face the facts, maam. Google knows exactly what they are up to. There are changes afoot, and it's something that was methodically planned out months ago, if not longer for some aspects.
This isn't something that was just thrown together overnight. It's something that has been planned for months, if not longer in some aspects.
GoogleGuy has dropped the hints of what's up, and the process taking place, however in the tradition of Google, cannot disclose details of what is afoot. But he is very confident, we are sure, that you good hardworking webmasters and SEO pros in time will catch on and make any adjustments you need to make, if that is even going to be necessary.
GoogleGuy doesn't seem to worried. My suggestion is follow his lead, lay low until the dust settles, and pick things up from there.
Sounds like a good idea.
see you folks after the update is an update.
This whole thing makes no sense.... I'm not freaking out too much yet, since I can't believe that they'd go live with SERPS as bad as these.
One thing that might be relevant or not, is that my web site was not even crawlable one year ago, when I learned about SEO and made it search engine friendly. My traffic and backlink count has been going up by about 22% every month since. traffic to my competitor's site has been been growing *much* slower than mine (they've always had a search engine friendly site) and it's only this last month that I passed them in traffic. (about 2500 unique visitors per day) I wonder if somehow this update (if that's what this is) is punishing sites that have been growing too fast, or if it just happens to be using old-old data. (My positioning has gone back to what it was about 6 months ago)
Anyway.. just wanted to vent a bit and share some data.
Lets all take a big deep breath and go buy a 12 of Heineken.
I guess I am losing faith in Google. :( It just seems to me something is terribly wrong.
>GoogleGuy doesn't seem to worried. My suggestion is follow his lead, lay low until the dust settles, and pick things up from there.
It may be that this is a smokescreen. Or, it may very well be that he doesn't realize how bad things are hosed. Stop and think. If he had known the algo was broken, then he'd have done something about it and fixed it. Bugs aren't known ahead of time.
I might be a brit in the us but I think the line is "goodnight Irene" rather than "goodnight, irenes", which would be the plural. Not correct unless you've had a great deal of sucess with girls named Irene (also see The Importance of being Ernest)
I only bring this up because GoogleGit (sorry GoogleGuy) tripped me up rather well on mis-typing SJ for CJ!
I was already crazy years ago. ;)
>Monday I will be in here reading the hundred posts from rfgdxm1 telling us how all his keywords are now number one.
I'd settle for my old #4 position back on the most important keyword. :( I've abandoned all hope Google will find the inbound anchor text to that site. I've been screwed by this buggy, broken algo.
"I was already crazy years ago. ;)"
Is this from Google? Maybe we can start a support group website for people?
I went from 15th on "widget rentals" to 27 on SJ and lost about 1000 back links(approx half). And now on www I'm still 15th and that has not changed or my back links.WWW has been rock solid for me over the last month. However the same happened to a friend had 2nd and 5th for "widget vacations" then start of this week he moved way down in the results (SJ) and lost about half his back links (approx 1000). now he has 2nd and 5th back and has not gained back his back links and this has not changed for the last few days on SJ. And www also never changed for him?
So I wonder why he got 2nd and 5th back without getting any back links back? And I'm still down 12 spots. And the best part is I added a lot (60) back links for the last update and was hoping to get in the top ten. I have been moving up the ladder over the last 6 months. Oh and we are also both a PR 6.
I know this posting may get deleted, but what the heck, I rather stand in the "PHONE BOOTH" right now than checking the postings on this board! PEACE ALL!
I didn't mean that G is showing horrible results for my site - I don't expect to get anywhere with this update anyway, because I just took over the optimization at the start of the April crawl - just that the quality of the results for that keyword is very poor at the moment. :)
My page was not #1 for most of the dance-related searches. Only a few of the tools on the page relate specifically to dances. There must be a lot of SEOs who are curious about this dance.
