One reason may be the change in algorithmn.I find it difficult to analyse when this update will end and all the result set settle down
MSN is doing fine for me as well as Google.
They are first on MSN and top 10 on Google.
Crazy, crazy yahoo.
But for rest of sites, I understand the G and M algos enough to be first page, but Yahoo...I find it somewhat random. Sometimes the strategies work, sometimes they don't.

We launched 2 sites in Oct 2005 and they were doing well, but then I realised that the link service we had used had dropped "www." for some of the first round of links to the site, so we had links to http://example.com.
Yahoo picked those up so I just did the 301 redirect from http://example.com to http://www.example.com for both sites.
Neither shows in Yahoo at all, but they do rather well in MSN and about where they should be in Google for their age.
Evidently I'm not the only one that encountered this, and normally it takes a few months I'm told for Yahoo to pick it up.
G and M traffic are great so it hardly seems worth tinkering for Yahoo's 400/day... Still, it would be nice to have that back.

Are you saying Yahoo might eventually catch up and more of my deep pages will start showing up?
Lesson? Don't do the redirect. Better lesson: never get in this situation to start from.
I do hope Yahoo sorts this out though. I guess time will tell.
I find Google is the best at finding the individual page that fits the key word phrase. Better than MSN and Yahoo. People don't want to be sent to a home page they want to go directly to the matching page. Hopefully Yahoo will get better at doing this over time. Not much help for now though.
I get the impression that Yahoo directory listings don't count for as much as they did, and that Yahoo is giving more weight to megasites and subdomain crosslinking schemes such as About.com's. That's just a gut feeling, though. (I don't watch Yahoo that closely, since I'm mostly a Google user myself.)
Any ideas why my website isn't doing well on Yahoo? It was never banned, but long after I removed all my doorway pages in order to avoid any bans, I haven't been getting anything from Yahoo.
Although...to split hairs, you're getting more from Yahoo than Google. Also: how do you rank in the serps on each engine?
A site:www search for my domain is showing a total of 990 links with my homepage at the top of the list which is "Cached," however all but 2 of those links are to long dead links to old doorway pages I removed 6 months ago.
Only my homepage is "Cached." Second link below that is 1 link an existing reciprocal links page, which is not Cached. Below that are all the dead links.
Slurp is regularly spidering and re-indexing only my homepage, and ignoring all my other pages.
Last summer when I found out Yahoo and Google were cracking down on the use of script-generated doorway pages, I quit using that program and removed all the pages before Yahoo banned this site. I rebuilt my site with lots of real hand-written content, and made sure there's no duplicate content. I was continuing to get hits from Yahoo for a short time after I removed all the questionable pages, but that soon died. It seems Yahoo has still not yet removed the dead links from their cache and they are not updating it.
I am only using a 301 canonical redirect from the non www version to the www version of my domain. The dead links currently produce a server Not Found error. I am only getting a little sporatic traffic from Google and a little more from MSN. I recently added a wordpress blog to my site.
Any ideas or suggestions what might be the problem?

I emailed to check I wasn't banned or had "done something wrong". I was not, had not. However as I have mild nudity my site is classified as adult. Perhaps this has something to do with it.
The only thing which seems common to my site and a number of other posts here is the redirect I have from non www. to www. address.
I also get high rankings in dogpile, netscape, askjeeves. Its just Yahoo that I don't rank well for.
I know my search words and the best pages and sites on the net extremely well. Yahoo's results for them are awful they look more like a random list of sites which happen to have the words in than the most relevant, best pages. I also notice that "authority" sites do much better than they should ie they rank very well for hardly any relevancy.
As a number of people here have said that even when they rank highly they hardly get any traffic I am not going to worry about it any more. I look forward to MSN eating Yahoo's market share. I have fantastic SERPs in MSN (because I have a great site) and MSN doesn't give such great weight to ancient (often usless) sites like google.
All of the above is just my opinion. I am not an SEO expert ;)
It seems that Yahoo is indeed losing search market share even more. Several users in this thread have stated they believe it is overly strict filtering. That makes sense to me.
Will we be soon saying the 'big two'?
Ironically, my site was doing good on Yahoo but terrible on Google & MSN when I was still using the spam software, but then it dies in Yahoo shortly after I cleaned it up and got rid of all the blackhat stuff. I figure Yahoo should be happy I got rid of the spam pages. Last year, Yahoo was my #1 traffic producer.
Have your Google and MSN results improved since you removed the spam?
Yahoo site:www.domain search shows they only have my homepage cached. Other cached pages are the spam pages I deleted from my site last summer.
I was doing fine until I changed my homepage meta a few months back. MSN & Google lapped it up - Yahoo dropped me from #7 to #79.
The other (silly) thing I did was apply for ppc...
My pages are indexed well, but all way down in the serps.
Does anyone understand Yahoo these days?

Instead of www.domain.tld listed under a site: command search - www.domain.tld/index.cfm given as an option on the 3rd page. I've never linked to www.domain.tld/index.cfm from with in the site, never. Which kind of made me think of that someone links to it from outside. And Guess what. I traced the link to the competitors secondary site. Oohhhhhhhhh. I am gonna do something, but first will wait; well maybe it will rebounce in a day or two or 3.
