Are meta descriptions still important for Google rankings?

Yes they are still very important as you will see a lot of search engines still pull text from the meta description. They might not be as important as they were 3, 5, 10 years ago but they are still important enough that you should take time to make sure you write good descriptions, remember, your target isn't just Google or AI, people actually do read meta description as well as they decide which link to click.

For informational sites they are still very important especially when combined with the first text paragraph and the title description. I spend more time on these three than anything else.
