This thread is for discussing all of the bugs and issues with the new WebmasterWorld beta that's RWD (responsive web design) for mobile using Twitter Bootstrap.

Your current user name and password are all you need, it's the same data, just a different version of WebmasterWorld's layout.

The link to the top of the page is (still) broken.

The problem with the <top> link is that webkit doesn't recognize anchors (whether <a name> or <a id> ) before the end of the <nav> element (again, whether inside it or before it). I experimented a while back by pulling a random page's source and editing small things at random.

Several versions ago, Safari didn't recognize empty anchors; it was a known bu-- er, feature. But that's long past.

Tried to edit a post done earlier... figured too much time had passed but tried anyway.

While it did not give me an edit window, it did everything else and included a submit button. In the past a notice that time had expired was displayed instead. Might want to look at that.

Looking at the top before I even get to content, not sure how much work this would be, but:

Please consider dropping the font size for base H1 to 30/32px and .sub-title to 20px for the wider screens via media queries.

please consider moving "Forum Moderators: ..." snippet to the right side of the screen(class=text-right?) within the same line as <ol class="breadcrumb">

Please consider moving "Become a Pro member"(it is there already) & image up on the same level as "Welcome to WebmasterWorld...."

And finally, Please consider adding a collapse widget that would hide right nav and expand actual thread to col-x12

Oh, criminy, I just met prod.blahblah myself a little earlier today. Browser threw a fit because it didn't recognize the security certificate. I think my own search was for OVH, using the Google dropdown from our search menu.

I think this is a case where naming names is appropriate:

in the results, each prod.blahblah duplicates a www.blahblah

"prod" = "production" = unintended artifact of server move?

thanks - Google is so fast at indexing, it proves that we all can't take any chances. those should all be coming out of the index. of course, they should not have been there in the first place.

not a bug as such, but in the footer: Resources > Home the link is to '/index.htm'

whereas the logo in the header and the breadcrumbs at the top of the page, the link to the homepage is ... '/'
unsure if this is intentional.

Remark on disconcerting behavior:

Old days, when I hit recent posts as my landing page, the new message marker STAYED when I backed to that page after reading the newest marked.... These days when I back the markers are all gone so I am having to NOTE the end number of new posts., IE, the refresh is too dang quick!

This is an observation, not a bug report.

BTW, the incremental updates, though subtle, are improving the site use minute by minutes, hour by hour, day by day. It is obvious to those watching... and thanks!

I was waiting until the important stuff was addressed, but here goes...

Not a bug, just a personal annoyance and has always been so, even before the site rebuild: If I edit a post on a multi-page thread, I am delivered to the top of the very first page in the thread. If i want to view my new edit, I must navigate to the bottom, then click the respective page number link, then navigate to the bottom of that page - whew!

Could we either stay on the respective page when we edit a post in a multi-page thread, or at least put the multi-page links also at the top?

And I agree with tangor, getting better all the time. So long and thanks for all the fish.

@tangor - you can change the settings for the time between Auto refresh for Recent Posts. Go to Control Panel > Control Panel > Recent Posts Preferences > and toward the bottom of the options there you can change the delay for "Page 1 Auto Meta Refresh".

I don't think that is what Tangor was talking about.

The issue is that the behaviour of the "new message marker" has changed.

Previously, the markers would still be there after reading a new post and hitting Back, but now they are not.

A minor irritation, but (for some of us) a frequent one.

I always opened a new tab, so left the recent post indicators as is. If I went to the page and returned (not hitting back) they were gone....
In this respect things are now the same, for me.

Hope thread is still in watch... other odd behavior:

In reply to any thread/post, if I PREVIEW (adding quote, style, etc.) then submit. Auto refresh to thread properly, displays what I posted, when I hit BACK I get a DOCUMENT EXPIRED page. If I back again I'm in the thread again... but have to back one more time to return to where I started.

@tbear: I don't open extra tabs just to keep one window open on the original as I always expect a website to work normally (regarding the new message markers change after updates to WW... which I still like very much... and I'm becoming accustomed to it)

Just don't get the post preview edit screen creating the Document Expired during ordinary navigation (copy a bit, pasted in quick reply, hit preview, quote it, write what I wish to say, submit, auto refresh to thread, back, DOC EXPIRED, back, thread again, still at my post, then BACK to where I started).

Edit, so you know, NoScript which means no JS (and to edit this I had to NO PAGE STYLE to bypass the button to edit to get to the edit link. If that is part of the problem, please take that into consideration.

None of the above is a deal breaker. If I'm odd man out I'll play solitaire and be happy. :)

Yes, we are monitoring every report, tangor, and it's really helpful for you all to keep reporting the bugs and features as you see them. We work on the highest priority bugs first, and security and under-the-hood often gets top priority, so some of the others are on the list but don't necessarily get attention as early as we'd all like, sorry.

But, yes, keep notifying us in this thread.

We may now be going into the "two steps forward, one step back" stage. Seems like there was a very brief period when the new code showed the Unread Posts flag even if you went to the second page of Recent Posts. Now it's back to only showing the flag for posts on the first page.

The act of opening the Recent Posts page sets a timestamp. So, by definition, anything that happened before this time-- such as posts from 12 hours ago-- is old and thus no longer flaggable. If that's the explanation, the flag is getting set at the wrong time.

A suggestion:

"Search this forum" function would be helpful. Whenever I was about to search through WebmasterWorld, I would sometimes use search option from the site, or copy the URL of the particular forum, and use it for "site"
directive in the search engine.
Having the function where I can conduct the search from within i.e. "Apache" forum would help.

In addition, about search box in the top right corner, I believe that it's a bit confusing as hitting Enter does nothing without selecting the search engine.

I stopped by to observe that Preview still has that weird font hiccup, where the preview starts out in one sans-serif font, and changes to a different one after the first occurrence of

code ("pre") markup

Generated HTML:

occurs twice-- right before <pre> and again at the end of the preview area. So the first one switches off Verdana (and would also switch off the color, if it weren't just default black) leaving us in whatever sans-serif is set for the site as a whole.

Size is done with a <span>, not with <font> markup, so that isn't an issue.

The <hr> is still next-to-invisible for me. Unless I peer very closely, it simply reads as several blank lines. This isn't just a quirk of my browser, is it?

I think readability has become a bit of a problem in places too, but in other areas it is much better. For my use of the forum there are a couple of things that stand out.

On the active posts list page (recent posts) the thread titles are not spaces apart enough and there are too many underlines. Visitors have got used to being able to recognise links without the underline, and on that sort of page it is fairly obvious where to click. I would go bold to highlight the interesting bit, get rid of the underline and increase vertical spacing a little.

When scanning threads the Msg# forms a break which reduces useability. That would be better on the right rather than the part you scan looking for the next post.
