Your current user name and password are all you need, it's the same data, just a different version of WebmasterWorld's layout.

Well, that was fun.

Click on bookmark (Recent Posts).
Get long and complicated message about login.
Enter name and password.
Get 500 screen with e-mail address and request to know what I was doing at the time of the error.
Manually request WebmasterWorld front page instead.
Click on Enter Forums.
Click on Recent Posts.
Server gives no hint that it ever tried to fob me off with a 500.

Open new browser window. (I'm doing this right now, in the middle of posting.)
Click on bookmark again.
Get 500 message again.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [e-mail] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Oh, I would be utterly fascinated to see what the server error log says ;)

Edit: wtf happened to the thread? It was two pages before I posted. Now it has all disappeared.

Edit: n/m, it just bumped me to page 3, with of course no hint at the top of the screen that that's where I am. Heavens, what a fright that gave me.

The redirect that is used by WebmasterWorld for links that are to "outside" is broken since the move to new server ..a click on any link to "the exterior" just brings you back to the WebmasterWorld page you were on when you clicked the link..

edit..links to internal pages on WebmasterWorld are also broken ..you again don't go "anywhere" you just end up back on the page you were on when you clicked the link to go to another thread..

Nice work Bill. Congrats. Looks and feels awesome. I love the color pallet and the new layout. Definitely seems faster on the new server (but that is all in the new code right bill? lol).

A few internal server errors late last night as the BETA was morphed forward. Site bounced around for a while, seems to have settled now. I also see posts missing in various threads.

In last night's Recent Posts lists, there was a dramatic gap between the very latest posts (around midnight Pacific Time) and the next-latest (dated 20 April). And the Forums Index listed each and every subforum as containing 0 posts, even though nothing seemed to be missing when you opened the subforum. Happily, this detail has now been corrected. But posts seem to be going missing all over:

Looks like there's cleanup happening as we speak, as in this thread [webmasterworld.com] in php and this thread [webmasterworld.com] in SSID. In the first, I've just edited-out a reply to a post about missing posts-- a post which has now disappeared, while the missing posts it referred to have mysteriously reappeared.

Now, is that cleanup, or have the Forums now entered the Trousers of Time and you never know which path you'll be in?

The former www.WebmasterWorld.com/wm wbeta/active-posts.htm -- or indeed any request for the beta subdirectory-- still leads to a 500 error. This strikes me as an overreaction; won't a simple 404 do?

The Copy Link dropdown function still only bounces you to the top of the page. (I checked. The link does not get silently copied along the way.)

The Arrow-to-Top link still does not work in webkit. (Scroll back a page or two and you'll find the formal explanation.)

Oh yes and...

The most recent post on the Most Recent Posts list is from 1:53 PM. This is pretty impressive, since the time on my computer is 1:06 and my control panel still shows a 7-hour offset. The post directly above this one is timestamped 12:55, which is also impressive since I didn't realize I'd managed to read eleven articles on assorted other websites in just 13 minutes.

The same thing happens in, ahem, cough-cough, one other subforum. But not anywhere else in Local or in Code, Content and Thingummy, or anywhere else that I checked. The good news is that I also tried a couple of forums within the Members Only area, just to make sure it didn't let me in, and each time I got a logon screen which I assume is what you're supposed to get.

In both cases the address bar says, mutatis mutandis,
[webmasterworld.com...]

Is the new server in a different time zone? I would understand if it claimed to be an hour earlier than before-- as if it had lost track of DST, even though it isn't even supposed to work that way-- but instead everything is an hour later.

Woo hoo, are we really on Apache 2.4? I Am Envious.

Edit after further experimenting and pawing through browser history:

Although you can't get to /css/ as such, you can read individual threads within /css/. So if you've got an ongoing discussion in your browser history, you can still reach it.

I like the way the second page (on "active" and/or "recent-posts") displays posts 26 - 50 out of a total of 27. And then the third page is 51-75 out of 27, and so on. That's Google-caliber math.

Yes, as noted earlier, the old migrated into the new. There is but one now.

Somehow the new WebmasterWorld is less readable to me than the old one. I don;t see an option to go back in order to compare real time, but my eyes were more comfortable with the old one. It should not be about colors, but probably about font size, line height and similar. I can say for sure that I could read easier the old one when checking Recent Posts. To me, it's bit crowded now.

Try a Zoom in +3 (ctrl+up-clicks on the mouse wheel if using Windows) and see if that doesn't solve the problem. This version of WW zooms BETTER than the old one. Or zoom until the right hand sidebar disappears and then see how readable it truly can be on a 24." 16:9 monitor! :)

I, too, am seeing many missing posts (some of mine in particular... and known by the system to have been there as the topics are listed in "My Threads", and in half of them no message of mine appears, but should.

I'm not experiencing that. Text is legible and easy to read for me.

What does suck however is the Preview mode of the editor. Doesn't look anything like the resulting post :)

Sorry to post here but can you pass on the message that the "Hot threads this week" and "Hot threads this month" menus on the right side are all showing errors (missing the "www.webmasterworld.com" prefix) I tried the "report a problem" link on the footer and that shows an error too.

Text is legible and easy to read for me.

It actually would not be about the font size, I figured it's about space between lines (line height, padding, margins, etc).

When I compare My Threads to Recent Posts, the first one is easier for me to go over in a quick glance. The second one takes me more time as text lines are simply too close to each other when compared to how it was previously. It may be that the font size went up without increasing the space around, not sure.

Also, I would like it better if "Post Reply" button is available at the bottom of the threads as well, in case when we are not using Quick Reply option.

To clean up the recent posts list...
Go to the top screen menu, control panel in the dropdown select "active list preferences"
In the "Active list configuration..." change "show description" radio button to "no" and hit submit.

Email notifications don't seem to be working for since the switch to the new server. That is, I'm no longer getting emails on threads that I've replied to and selected to get email notification of replies.

The connection has timed out

The server at www.webmasterworld.com is taking too long to respond.

These have been more frequent. Of course it could be one of the 16 connections between me and WW :)

The link to the top of the page is (still) broken. This one seems like really low hanging fruit to me, so I'm not sure why it's taking so long to fix it. Here's one way to fix it:

The top link is empty, with no height/width. You could give this some content:
<a name="top">&nbsp;</a>

Better yet, use an id instead of name, as that's the current recommendation:
<a id="top">&nbsp;</a>

Next, fix your custom-styles.css. You've got a style that adds text-decoration: underline to ALL "a" elements, anchors and links as opposed to links only. Change that rule, because I can't imagine you actually want to style anchors like that:

a[href] {
  color: #000000;
  text-decoration: none;
}

Doing that should be enough to fix the link.
