What surprises me from that picture is representatives from the 5 largest search engine were sitting next to each other, and they all managed to walk away with nobody getting a knife in the back. ;)

I wasn't asking for me, but for the sanity of the others that post here. To be honest, at the moment I am dreading your update as most of the potential my sites have in Google is in the direction of down. If you want to postpone the update for a month or 2, you have my blessing. Unless of course I'll get #1 on that one SERP I have been hoping for. In that case, bring on the update. ;)

Now that Brett has put our minds at ease for a due date, what do the best minds out there expect from the 'dance.'

It is my understanding that it is basicly crunching the previous deep-crawl numbers, with some input of FreshBot. Others in some of the forums say we should be looking for lots of activity on our servers during the dance period. Any input or archives to straighten me out on what I can expect?

Utter panic by the posters of WebmasterWorld. Some totally elated. Some threatening to slash their wrists. And, Webmasters worldwide furiously updating their HTML and FTPing it up to the server before the Google deep crawler comes by.

My impression is that the update does not include info from the freshbot. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Also, just checking, the deep crawl is after the dance isn't it? I thought it was a few days after last time.

I guess the question in a nutshell is...

Is the dance taking prior information to determine ranking after the dance - or is there an active deep crawl to be expected DURING the dance - to derive the ending results.

This update will be based on last month's deep crawl data. The March deep crawl will begin after the update is over, and that data will be used for the next update (at the end of March or thereabouts).

Anne, at the last dance I had some pages indexed, that had been uploaded -- and found by freshbot -- AFTER the deepcrawl.

Thanks Kovacs... so there is no need to worry about racing things to the server (or leaving it alone) since the previous data will be used - the servers will not be touched by Google through the dance period.

hmmm... with Kovac and Troels, the consensus seems to be prior Deep Crawl data with some FreshBot data to run the calcs through the dance.

do you know these were the included as part of the dance, or were they included imediately after the dance through normal freshbot activities?
