update confusion: sites missing, serps fluctuating

I have a sites, which was no. 2 for widgets and a PR5, now I have a PR6, not changing anything on the site and am on position 39.

Several of my other domains have done similar confusing things and I donīt have any clue.

2 new sites, which got deepcrawled like 3 weeks ago, are not showing up in the serps and have no PR, therefore I think the real update hasnīt happened yet.

What is your suggestion, have a holiday and come back in a week?

It sounds like you are missing some anchor text. Go to www2.google.com and type in allinanchor:yoursearchquery
Then replace the 2 in www2.google with -in, hit return and you will see where you used to rank. You probably rank higher on -in (the old index) for your search phrase. GoogleGuy says this should come back to normal as things settle, at least for rfgdxm1 anyway:).

Yes, wait.
It will hopefully be reincluded once all the datacenters are working with the same index and they start to bring in the new data and link relationships.

First hi to everybody and excuse for my english. Is not my language but I will try to do it the best I can.
Well, my problem is this, and I trust someone can explain me what happen.

I got a page, not commercial, just a personal one. this page is in ODP directory, and in google directory.

I search my page in google my page a couple of weeks ago and it was nš 32. So no problem, I donīt know with with which rank because I have never worried about this.

Yesterday I did it again and my main page had desapeared. from the search, It is still in ODP and in google directory with a page rank half green and half grey and near the top of his category, but not in the search. It does not appear in the search.

Curiously some subpages are still in the search like the forum www.mydomain/foro/ and inmediatly down of my forum page but a little bit to the rigth is the main page with page rank in grey, the forum is page rank 3(I have downloaded today the google toolbar).

Then I have typed directly the main page in the search box and it does not appear. I have also searched links to my page with no results but it is linked from ODP and google directory (?)

I have never changed anything in the main page, so I wonder why it has desapeared. I have read some things about being banned, but why if I have not done anything.

My page is listed Yahoo, Terra and other search engines.

I hope anyone can kindly explain me what happens.

Hi Karolina

Google seems to be working on a new algorythum and they have reverted to an older index (a couple of months old) and they plan to bring in backlinks over the coming days/weeks and months.

If therefore your site is only a couple of months old then this could be the reason that you currently can not find your site listed as you would expect.

Just to add to the above - Google run various datacentres and the new algo is moving accross the datacentres therefore depending on what datacentres is accessed on each search you may get different results - eg Current Data with Old aglo - which I assume you will appear in - or Older Data with New algo where you may have to wait until being listed again.

I have a word that for the last few months when entered on google would say there were around 40,000 results.

Today I entered that word and it showed just 21,000.

I know from the past few months it has gone up and gone down but never to this level.

Any idea of what could cause it dropping by 50%.

Could the word have had an accent in it...maybe for a foreign language. They have been combining the results of with and without accents but recently it has reverted back to separate results

no, the word is one word and there is no accent.

so don't really understand why it has dropped by 50% the number of results the google used to show.

Perhaps the search returned a lot of near-duplicate pages that Google is now filtering more effectively.

i think this is more to do with the switching of data around the centers and the current google down-date. ive seen serps go from 2,400,000 to 660,000 for a term. A check later and it was back at 2,400,000

Hi Karolina, and welcome to Webmasterworld. Your English is fine. Don't worry about it.

What is happening to you seems to be happening to lots of people these days. I can give you another example: my friend's web site, which is relatively new, but was completely indexed in Google for the last couple months and is listed in all of the major directories, now only has one page listed in the "new" index. His site is also non-commercial, and he doesn't do anything unusual, so there is no reason why Google should drop it.

As Dayo and others explained, Google is currently working on a new algorithm, and they are using an old set of data for that. It is unclear why they are broadcasting these results, but we all hope that they will soon add all of the missing pages and links.

You just have to be patient. Wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.

The way I look at it at the moment is this: I don't know what's going on. Nobody else does either so, I'll just keep writing and programming and go check it out later...

I think anyone with site in/out problems currently would do well to do the same. No point beating ourselves up over stuff we just can't control and can only speculate on.

Me too.
My site has been in the index for about 12 months. Since october 2002 the site has had a pagerank of 5. Three days ago the site disappered in google. All Pages are gone (about 2000 sites because it's a news site).

There are no doorway-pages or any other "illegal" things.
Backlinks are shown, the google toolbar shows only grey.

Please give us a hint because our site has lost 50% of visitors :(

Clean up your act, then send a mail to google with reinclusionrequest in the subject.
That is, if you are sure you have been penalized.

If you are not penalised, wait and see what happens in this update or the next.
We have hundreds of messages stating the index we are seeing most of the time is not complete yet.

allinanchor is not the full extent of SERPS indexing.

When you do a regular search for a keyword a whole load of other factors come into play - allintitle, PR, keywords in text, content, etc etc

You're looking at just one factor. You're doing well for allinanchor so forget about it. Look at your page titles, content and external linking strategy instead.

Just a quick note of encouragement. My site was lost as well for over a week. (It's a clean, PR5 site.) It just turned up again yesterday, so my advice is to just wait. Sites are disappearing and reappearing and it is all out of our control. This update is far from over. Take it from me, no amount of worrying will bring your site back. Just time and patience.
