Let's recap:
Normal dance:
Five days into it and it is almost over with index moving across the other 7 main data centers.
So far, 7 days into this PRE-DANCE:
The SJ data has not started to migrate to the other 7 main data centers. FI not included.
I have not seen sj results show up on www in over 3 days now.
www2 and www3 all are pointed to the IP of sj.
I've seen it mentioned that we have been privy to a part of the dance we normally don't see and I would be inclined to agree with that.
I don't think we will see the real dance start for a couple days at least. It's not a real dance anyway until all the data is applied, so I think we are all going to see a big shift from what the SJ server is showing and what will actually be in the index.
I find it funny that GoogleGuy has disappeared. I think they rolled out the new algo to get our opinions. Most searchers don't bother to fill out a satisfaction report. They just go somewhere else. In that respect, Google has a great asset in this community because they sure got a lot of feedback about what was on the SJ server. I think when the dance really starts in earnest, we'll see GoogleGuy show up again.
Anyway, back to work adding content for the next deep crawl

1. Do you know if your site is a lot older or newer than your competitors sites.
2. Did u ever notice before the update began how the amount of backlinks on your site compared to your competitors.
3. Has your site been updated recently, i.e. in the last 2 months.
4. Do u use any questionable techniques on your site at all.
for those are in a similar position, me included, for about 5% of the domains that we manage, we must hold tight.
if i am wrong, throw a pie in my face, then together lets throw one in g's face, cause they just messed up. doubt it though.

2. They had much more backlinks then I have. But I have worked hard at improving that this month.
3. We update once a week. It's a content based humor site. Look at my username and add a .com to it.
4. Not that I'm aware of. I just entered this search engine game in the last month hoping to improve my listings. I got the reverse. lol
I suspect you will see an actual honest to goodness update in the next week or so, and then the real fun will start.
I have stuff with fresh tags today.

I haven't noticed any movement for a while either. This is the wierdest dance I have ever seen. It's been fun to talk about.
Question: Can someone tell those of us who are stupid about this just how long it would take to apply the New Algo to the New Index, once Google is satisfied with the New Algo? Seconds? Hours? Days?
Not my area of expertise, obviously.
Also, could that be happening somewhere right now, that we don't see?
PR calculations take weeks, when using over 10,000 computers.
Data transfer between datacenters takes days.
Building of the index? That must take at least a week.

markusf, I guess what I was getting at is, once G is happy with the New Algo that they appear to be testing against the older (known) index, how long before they can apply that new algo to a newer index?
Make sense, or am I asking it the wrong way?
I really doubt this is the dance. This is just what usually happens every month right before the dance starts, the only difference is that this time, we get to see it. What we are used to seeing every month hasn't even started yet. This is just pre-dance stuff that usually happens only for Google to see, but this time though, we got to see it.
That's my guess.

Common sence would say that this new process can't be to much longer then the old one. So one would expect the update to start on the 10th-15th. Don't be to surprised if the results for competitive terms are nothing like what is now being shown on SJ.
Seems like one likely scenerio anyway, since w2 and w3 are currently pointed to -sj.
If G is satisfied with algo now, perhaps that is what is happening, out of our sight ... and it could conceivably explain why the number of changes being seen on -sj is winding down now.
Perhaps we're just waitng for what's going on on w2? Who the heck knows. Anyway, once again it's martooni time. Til tomorrow.

We've helped them spot what it did (and didn't) catch, and now they tinker more and then start the dance...
I'm actually quite impressed to be able to see it all being pulled together rather than just being near completion. Learned more just watching the "controlled" flux and keeping my mouth shut.
