I've been quiet over the last couple of days after ranting when this all started because I have been assuming things would get better for me in the SJ and FI results etc.... but as of yet still nothing to get excited about. I just wondered what other peoples perceptions are at this point in time on the overall update moving forward.

1) Very Happy -Doing great up there for all my important terms.
2) Happy - Slightly higher rankings than last month.
3) Average - Haven't really gained or lost.
4) Poor - Lost quite a few important keywords.
5) Diabolical - The whole update is awful please revert back to current SERPS.

GG mentioned things would start to improve as they factored things in.....mine haven't so I'm going for number 5....hoping that they will at some point....

My own experience: I was ranked great for very important keyphrases the last 6 months along with another 9 sites who all jostled for position on the first page. I'm now page 7 and they are all still jostling for the first page although I have far more backlinks, pages indexed etc... etc....

When everything is said and done, Google SERPS are not going to look much different that what is currently on www now.

After everyone gets over the fact that the current SJ build didn't make it to the real world, you can sit back and reflect on the fact that you now have a better understanding of how an index is built.

Still not a very happy hamster with -sj results, 3 - 3.5 for most of our sites so far, a couple have slipped a bit but nothing much. No new backlinks from the last two months are showing up and our own site has only internal links showing, external links must be getting counted or there's no way we'd stay in the same place.

Definitely a miserable 5 for two sites. One, about 4 months old still #1 on www, with no changes other than added backlinks, is gone from the -sj index entirely. Ok, I can live with that 'coz it happens sometimes and I can explain to the client that it's probably a blip. But another site has gone from around #10-12 on it's main keyword (behind a bunch of heavy hitters that we don't mind being ahead as they are very good sites) to Page 30! Like other people have mentioned none of the competitors seem to've dropped at all. At least 15 pages of sites ahead of this one have no relation to the keywords at all and I can't even find any mention of the keywords anywhere on the sites so I have no idea how Google is giving these results. Very, very disappointed about this :(

So far this month (and I know it's early days yet) Google traffic is way down on all our sites, but there is a bigger range of keyword searches showing up - some of them are really weird... Also weird - since this -sj thing started all traffic from other search engines has shot up, real figures, not just by comparison.

(Sorry - long post... need to share my confusion)

Looks ok so far. Not much change in the serps. The page rank and catagory rankings seem ok. Not sure how the April crawl will change things or when www and sj will be the same.

WebGuerrilla:

Thanks, That is exactly what I have been saying to my people: "Remain calm, all is well" (Quoted from: ROTC Officer, Animal House, 1978)

Glad to see someone with your stature to back it up.

Sorry WebGuerrilla. My pronouncement, and yours, have no basis whatsoever!

>I think it does include at least some of the April crawl. If not, then I say "bring it on" :D

Most definitely it does. I see in -sj a dinky, new site by someone else that has all of one backlink. That being from my own site. It got there because of the April deep crawl. Dunno if there is anything else that will be added from the April deep crawl (and, I have serious doubts much will be), however at least some of the April deep crawl is in -sj.

"People who are getting happy and giving a 1 rank...Its not the hard work that has got you guys here..its prob the spam :-) since the filters aren't applied yet....."

Darkroom -> Has it occured to you that Google's algo find you a spammer, hence your standing in the SERPs?

my, my darkroom - you're panicking! I say take a valium and take it easy. But your misery does not justify you to attack those more fortunate than you.

Peace.

Exactly. The sj serps just don't make any apparent sense for the terms I'm very close to. What are we looking at over there at sj?

Maybe the freshbot index without PR applied?
Maybe the most recent deepbot without PR applied?

This is very interesting to me. Any thoughts WebGuerrilla?

I believe this thread was to take a poll of individual opinions to see an overall picture.
I think a different thread could be for personal bickering. IMHO
