Update Dominic - Part 3

Continued from part 2: [webmasterworld.com...]

I'm back... just browsing, but feel I should re-cap what many people are missing (because it is buried well back in the thread now).

There are two phenomena

a) Algo/filter changes. These are being played out on SJ, and of course: if you are testing a change you use older tried and tested data, which is what Google has done (with a dash of Fresh). Hence all the missing links, strangely dropping sites, etc.

b) The update, with the application of the latest data and links.

It was spelled out earlier that the results on SJ will change when newer data, and this months crawl data, is brought in. However, the SJ effect may replicate at other centers before that data upgrade is applied.

I think that's an accurate reflection of reality, and the message is therefore don't panic. For those who have suffered on SJ, it might get worse before it gets better, but wait until the new data is in there before you throw a wobbler.

im not sure, this certainly is odd, i mean just because in the past google released the new index on www2 & ww3 doesn't mean that once www2 and www3 change an update is in progress, i could be wrong however best to sit tight and wait for confirmation from GG

I read the other thread - dance has begun - now we will see the gradual addition of backlinks, new additions, PR, etc.

rfdxm1 - are you still convinced this is not the update?

>Maybe this is just the first grab and it was from -sj

www2 and www3 currently ARE -sj. They are just now pointing elsewhere than before.

Just great...ugh...

Before: allinurl:mydomain.com -> 1,710 documents
After: allinurl:mydomain.com -> did not match any documents

Nice job...

I sure hope that new documents from the last deepcrawl are planned to be included.

what we are seeing in sj, 2, or 3 can't be the update. makes no sense. i for one will wait. results seems disparate and disperse, not consolidated. i see no rhyme or reason for some of these datacenter results.

Fingers crossed this isn't the real update... would be probably the worst I've ever seen for relevancy...

May be official, but results are not fully balanced, nor are recent indexed sites brought it. Balancing is still taking place. We do not have a grasp on the new and comprehensive index at this time.

Not yet here!?! IMHO this is not it. Two new sites and nothing change on the resulting listing after filling all the new title in the last 6 weeks.

This "update" is beginning to remind me of another well known brand name who in the 1980s, under intense market pressure from their competitors, changed their formula midstream without doing adequate research and marketed it with the attitude they could do no wrong - only to have their competition gain more market share. They soon reverted back to the original version. (Coca Cola, for all you too young to remember.)

Three months from now are searchers going to have a popup to choose between "New Google" and "Classic Google"?

Classic Google... good one.

It's like we just went into the fifth dimension to bizarro world. Everything that is bad is good, and everything good is bad.

actually sj = diminished productivity for most

I don't know about the rest of you but I am having a hard time getting anything done since this sj- BS surfaced.

I won't even get into the update dreams of late ;P

sj = salty jello
sj = SERP Jungle
sj = slow jubilation

Wow - Yahoo backlinks 384,000 -vs- 600's? OUCH!

Look at those huge threads about -sj. All that has changed is some DNS entries.

I just don't by it. Currently, between the datacenters, I am seeing results that make NO sense. Nothing. Nota! Results are accurate in places. Off badely in others. Backlinks must still be being sought out, and balancing must still be occuring amongst datacenters. Only the live index IS showing sites indexed for the first time last month.

Maybe Google was running out of disk space.

Calm down. Googleguy said it himself. They are still going to first add new pages, backlinks, filters, etc etc etc.

Why is this still not being understood?

>Why is this still not being understood?

Correct. The dance has *begun*. This does NOT mean it is over. Results are known to change during the dance. However, the early results tend to typically be similar to the end results, with just minor changes.

Looks to me that part of the new algo is to filter irrelevant backlinks. Says half of the 661k yahoo backlinks are irrelevant. Looks like google just defined a backlink spammer filter. Are you a backlink spammer?

No, I'm not a backlink spammer...

But it sure looks like Yahoo was... :)

I agree, this is "usually" true. However, Googleguy doesn't "usually" come out and say that new pages, backlinks and filters are still on there way.
