Update Dominic - Part 3

Continued from part 2: [webmasterworld.com...]

I'm back... just browsing, but feel I should re-cap what many people are missing (because it is buried well back in the thread now).

There are two phenomena

a) Algo/filter changes. These are being played out on SJ, and of course: if you are testing a change you use older tried and tested data, which is what Google has done (with a dash of Fresh). Hence all the missing links, strangely dropping sites, etc.

b) The update, with the application of the latest data and links.

It was spelled out earlier that the results on SJ will change when newer data, and this months crawl data, is brought in. However, the SJ effect may replicate at other centers before that data upgrade is applied.

I think that's an accurate reflection of reality, and the message is therefore don't panic. For those who have suffered on SJ, it might get worse before it gets better, but wait until the new data is in there before you throw a wobbler.

Well, I'm seeing SJ on www, 2 and 3 so this looks like the update.

Quite humbling seeing over 300 hard fought backlinks and several good postions gone in a blink!

Oh Well!

Don't despair MrGuy - I can't comment on your loss of good position but I believe GoogleGuy has stated something to the effect that the backlinks will be stirred back into the simmering Google sauce as the dance commences. I assume so as I'm showing a whopping 3 backlinks on -sj at the moment.

im a little bit confused because here in germany i see sj-results only on there and www is still the same as it has been for weeks.
i was looking several times the last 2 days but no sj on any www..

My opinion: I lost some places with sj.

But I acknowledge: I was beaten by sites of quality and spammers disappeared.

Honestly, the algo is better but I'm going to (re)take the first place!

GoogleGuy can you give us a outline of whats going to happen?

Example

SJ to all data centers.
Spam filters
New PR
April deepcrawl pages added
etc.

I would guess #1 first, then a gradual process of bringing in updated backlinks and spam filters at the same time as refreshing pages and including new pages.

GG, I currently am seeing www2 and www3 pointing at www-sj.google.com. Would you call that the "official" beginning of the Google dance? Not that -sj is more than old news to us here already.

Sounds like a good indicator to me.

So.... do we split to a new thread now? :)

Euh... why using spam filters after the publication of the new index? It is more logical to purify before offering to the public the best results not?

Google Guy

I have sent you that short Spam report as suggested. I stopped at number 16 in the search returns, but there are plenty more after.

I also included the top authoritive site for that search term (really - and it is not mine - in fact I had to complain to their hoster once for using my site's copyrighted pictures - so no love lost, but their ommission just says soooo much to me).

I would *really* like your comments. Not least as the top position holders I have previously reported to you (with detail of whois, links, link farms, etc.) in great (but concise I hope) detail - nothing ever happened. I even pointed out their new duplicate content sites, which have now made the top search returns on sj.

If this is what it is about, I will be following suit, as I have no choice. I am the guy that goes around and visits, inspects and reviews these "places" (see key phrase), and used to do incredibly well because of my absoluteiy unique content. Now I am burried under the same Spam I was before.

Hey, I have to head out for a couple hours, but I'll check out your reports GrinninGordon--thanks for submitting them.

rfgdxm1,

it's ben established (by GG) that the SJ index is the index that will be rolled out. So far, www has been dns directed to SJ datacenter. This is the first time that the index is showing in ww2, ww3 which is how the dance is performed. cha. cha. cha.

RegencyRules,

According to GG, they will roll out the index first before updating the backlinks!

renee, me and others have seen -sj on and off in www for a day. Who cares what is on www2 and www3 when GG already stated earlier today that he expected that to show soon in other data centers? This is just an anticlimax.

surely the point of the update is to update the index, im still seeing results from a couple of months ago in there, i dont think this is it at all

No way --- it's ON!

But don't worry - perhaps the new stuff will be adding in other next 5 days? Maybe this is just the first grab and it was from -sj

From what I have seen I'd say it is significantly suboptimal, and inferior than before. Perhaps SUCKS is a tad extreme. ;)
