Google Down

first time I see this happened

I have been searching for a few thoudsands time and today is the first time I see a server error message.

Server Error
The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in a minute or so.

Is it because too many people are checking their new site ranking with the new updated index? :)

I have not heard a 'peep' from any of the wire services, Google news, or any of the technology news sites about Google being down 50 minutes yesterday. Has anybody seen a news report on what actually happened?

Yes there was a headline in the Times today....

"America cut off from quality UK sites

The U.S. was plunged into panic as they had problems getting informative UK websites via google search engine yesterday. An American spokesmen said 'It was like living in the dark ages when we realised that searching on google was not possible and we were cut off from quality and helpful British websites"

Made the news in some german tech news sites. No wonder, with some 80+% of searches going through Google.

Does anyone have some information on what actually happened? I'd be curious to know what took out Google. I've heard (unsubstanciated rumors) that it was a bad RDF dump, but I'm not really buying it.

Could not find any news either.
A google outage is a scary thing. I would feel much better if I would hear a plausible story about it.
