Not crazy about the user experience using Google's auto ads. Gave it another try and the ads were really messing with the user experience.

It's pretty insulting to received these messages when the reason for your drop in revenue is Google Adsense or Google Search themselves. It's like getting a kick in the balls by someone who then try to explain to you how to get back up and walk it off.

Not all messages are negative
Some are positive since some publishers are seeing their revenues increasing because they are focusing on solutions and not standing permanently a the lamentation wall.
If you have the wrong assets in your book be creative and build up others.
In some niches revenues are exploding and advertisers are still spending money.

Down times are the best times to revamp a site. Even if it doesnt help directly with revenue right away, it can be therapeutic.

I also started to reach out to publisher to increase my ad revenue by my own. Sold ad spaces for about +300% compared to the average adsense earnings.

I will never use auto ads, it place ads in the middle of content. I want people to read my content not click away at the first opportunity.

@alphawave2000 am sorry for then you won't earn well it does not disturb your readers from reading it's serves as opportunity for your earnings and it will show some of your content in the ads sometimes and they maybe interested and clicks if you remove the auto ads am sorry your earnings will be more than low and remember we in covid 19 better leave it

I received a warning, first time EVER for an ad placement. And welp, it was due to an ad position that was placed via Auto Ads.

The staff working the email support for Google Adsense right now are absolute imbeciles.

This staff member even said that I shouldn't be running ads within the content feed (auto ads placed those too eh). They also said ads were close to text (auto ads placed those to eh). All I did, was simply put Auto Ads code at the top of my page. So I turned off Auto Ads and will wait till Google doesn't have temporary staff doing their work.

This is just it though, Auto Ads brings on the droolers of the website world, the ones who have no idea how to actually do any work on their site other then replicate content. Leading to the support needed for this, done by droolers too.

Google says Auto Ads is supposed to give us more time to work on our content right, but that is wrong, as I just had to waste so many hours putting manual ad positions back.

That's right. I've gone from making 5k+ to ONE POUND AND 85 PENCE this month. That's what happens when covid completely #*$!s your niche and Google rubs salt into the wounds with an erroneous update.

Sports. We do quite in-depth event coverage on match-days with live commentary, updates etc. Obviously, covid's #*$!ed all sports over so a big reason for the drop is the fact there's no incentive for someone to search for the website.

But all our more evergreen content has also tanked since Google's original update in January, slowly dropping for #1-3 positions to page 2 and beyond. The January update also saw none of our news articles appearing in the Top Stories carousel on Google or on Google News (after being on it, approved, for over 3 years).

The traffic has gone from between 150-300k monthly Google users to 10-20k. Now it's at about 5k for the entire month. Absolutely astonishing.

Well. That is very sad. But on the brighter side, it can only get better from this point.
We can already tell that from now on, we can't rely on Google. The safest bet is to just build a brand name and increase returning visitors in the future.

Sports demand will be back after the summer.

@nmbrsk I also run sport site but with what you said I still don't believe you are earning less that much because sport is on a little bit or you don't base on football bundesliga is on and premier league is closing to return to his league next month, however base on your recent earnings did you really get traffic from Google that much how did you do that and also don't you have social media traffic

I should have been more specific. It’s in the sports niche, but it’s about one certain sporting club. Yes, sport is coming back, but it’s not just the COVID situation that’s lost me earnings. Like I said, the January update took away a lot of our traffic - and consequently revenue.

I do have social media followers, however very modest (10k) and with overall not-so-great engagement. Social traffic is also our least valuable as we get such poor RPMs for our ads.

We were on Google News until the January update, ranking for plenty of keywords and the revenue kept coming each match day. But following that, we had a continuous and significant decrease, with only referral traffic keeping us going. See the screenshot below for what I mean. I’ve blurred the amounts but you can see the trend and the sudden stop in March/April. August is the start of the season and by May we usually have the highest traffic and revenue stats with a significant increase in December and January. Not this time.

@nmbrsk so no you are not getting your traffic from Google but wait am still confuse since you're getting traffic from Google is not search engine and how did you get traffic from Google news and since there updates in January how did it affects your site that traffic does not comes from there anylonger but am sure of one thing of the traffic is from Google search then I don't see why you won't earn atleast half of your recent earnings even though the covid 19 crisis takes effect, however base on your social traffic is it from Twitter Facebook or Reddit am into sports and want to increase my traffic very well that's why am asking what other source did you use to get traffic or you base on Google news traffic ?

I've been there, but not nearly as bad. I was making up to $10,000 USD and 7 million pageviews a month a few years ago with one website. Now I may make $2000 a month with 2.5 million pageviews. Ever since December of 2017 (Google Maccabees Update), Google has lowered my rankings with every update.

@gatormark what niche are you into and how are you getting such traffic please enlighten me please want to start earning such amount am on sport niche but base on one club.

You can only make money with Adsense amd avoid any SEO update if you diversify:

- Geographies and languages
- niches not only one but a dozen of sectors where only few players are active.
Concentrate on the sectors which have the highest RPM (expertise is needed here).

@web01 find your own niche, don t ask people to share their niche with you this would be equivalent to share their bank account with you
