New month, nothing new with AdSense, though. Thank god the clawback is just 10 EUR for me this month. Turns out almost none of my traffic is invalid.

@MayankParmar That's pretty disappointing. I would imagine, however, that if I sold some ad spots personally and put them on my site as jpgs or gifs with links, that algo would not detect them as ads. Maybe it's time to web publishers to do what publishers have traditionally done, sell and place ads themselves.

My view on ad-blocking is pretty straightforward. People who don't want to see ads should consider that without advertising, there would be no free TV, radio, and newspapers would cost $5 a copy. Ad-supported media has been viable since the 1800s. People who wasn't ads to disappear should think twice about it. The world would be a far less interesting place, with fewer choices, without advertising.

Well, yes, I'm biased. I've been in the media business for close to 40 years.

June was looking as good if not better than May until a week ago. Then a big plunge.

I noticed Google is running quite a few TV commercials in my area, even for search, which is very rare for them. Starting to wonder if the company is going to report bad numbers for the current quarter.

If the company is having a bad quarter, it will take a lot more quality ads away from smaller publishers to keep for itself and to protect its profits and stock price.

@scottb - pretty much the same except I don't like your hypothesis tbh.

Reality is we're coming up to the end of Q2 which means budgets have been spent. Not some crazy Google conspiracy.

KaseyM, I like honesty, but I'm not "crazy". I come from the business side. Several comments:

- Google stock is down 16% since it reported bad numbers for the first quarter of the year.
- The economy has declined quite a bit since then, which is bad for all advertising.
- Google started cutting back how much it shares with partners several years ago, and it's only getting worse. (Except the so-called YouTube partner).
- Google doesn't spend millions on national TV ad campaigns for its own search engine unless it has growth issues.

Yes, it's the end of the quarter, although the drop normally doesn't hit 10 days out. There is more to the story.

So, I finally put an ads.txt file on my main websites last night, and today I noticed a nice increase in my Adsense earnings. I hope this is not a coincidence! We’ll see over time.

Google started cutting back how much it shares with partners several years ago

What does this mean?

Ember, Google quarterly financial reports used to include cost per click and other details from AdSense. The percentage growth for partners kept getting smaller and smaller. Some quarters it went into decline.

When those numbers started getting really bad a few years ago, they magically disappeared from the reports.

Now they mainly just show "cost per impression" and "impressions", which is really strange for a cost per click network. Lately the "impressions" show small growth, but that includes a lot of junk that publishers keep complaining about.

Additionally the new tax rules which will be imposed by the G20 will have an indirect impact on the publishers income at least in term of tax declarations.

I hate to say that even having a private adsense account will not protect us again any disclosure of Adsense to the respective local tax autorities.

Is it worth to take the risk?

Don t think so.

@Sissi - Why would a person NOT disclose their income? That would be crazy...to me. This is a business and is subject to the tax laws of our respective countries.

@Gatirmark

Some tax autorities in some countries do not even know what Adsense is, I m not talking about emerging markets.....
However I fully agree if it s a business you have to declare it and deduct from your revenues your costs.

Blank ads
I have a dormant site whithout ads but which was 2 years ago alresdy autorised by adsense.

I have added 15 min ago new ads and they are active now.
In all my portfolio over 6000 pages I haven t notice any blank ads.
What s the theory behind blank ads

Getting near to the end of the month and I'm pleased to say that in relation to last month it's been much better, not fantastic but a clear increase of about 18-20% over May's earnings.

However, the downer is that despite the increase I'm still 25% down overall in relation to the same period last year :(

11% clawback for June and lowest earnings I've had since this time of year in 2016. The high clawback continues for me even though I removed link units 3 months ago. Removed another ad unit in the right nav bar and only have two units running (header and in content). I added PLENTY of space around my units too. A ridiculous amount. So at this point, I'm just not sure what to do.
