2018 was a goodish year, with a record December month.
2016 and 2017 were hellish years for me.
I hope that 2019 will be at least as good as 2018 was, but as always the first months of the year are "hibernation months", so let's see how horrible January 2019 will be.

I’m seeing a lot of big sites are having the double click penalty starting today

Things are starting off pretty good for me. I got a negative clawback, my closing balance was 6 cents higher than my estimated earnings! RPM is also doing quite well this morning I doubt it will hold through the day but the general overall trend remains positive. Traffic on the other hand is slow, similar to December 25th, but I guess I need to be patient and wait for everyone to get over their hangovers.

Huge drop in RPM from December 26 to January 1st (a drop of roughly 2$), but it's often like this every new year and it slowly goes back up towards Valentine's Day.

I'm also seeing a big drop in Coverage from roughly 99% to 91% between the same dates. This of a higher concern to me. Anybody else notice a drop in coverage?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

The drop is normal, as a lot of campaigns ended on 31.12.2018

The problem is that each year is the same "suprize" - no plans (budgets)for the first 1-3 months...

Now is the time for garbage ads, malware, toolbars, sms scams etc

Time to start the great 2019! The usual new year crash :). Hope everyone had a great holiday season! Save the money to handle this quarter of RPM winter.

Coverage is 98%.

CTR and CPC are about 70% of December (no shocker)

I use a decent amount of link ads and that “sponsored searches” popped back up. That always hurts total CTR on those ads.

Oh well January is always bad. Things could always be worse.

Coverage is now down to 82%. I suspect something might be going on with my site / AdSense account. I'll contact Google.

Starting off bad like every other January. However, for me, Adsense revenue usually starts picking up in the 2nd week of January.

Signed up after lurking for awhile. The Ad RPM is indeed low the moment we hit January. Good thing the months leading up to December was exceptional. Looking forward to the pick up in February, then!

What kind of a mix of bids are you all seeing lately? It seems on my side that CPM bids are about 50% of the equation on all ad units other than link units.

Happy new year to all.

Google needs to oil its stats tech regularly.

Stuck for last 9 hours.

@Evan AdWords doesn't offer CPM bids, a rise in CPM signals a decilne in AdWords bids and rise in 3rd party networks. Possibly a coverage issue.

Looks like I'm not the only one who has started off 2019 dismally. I haven't even reached £5 in earnings yet, that is absolutely terrible. If it carries on like this I won't even reach triple figure earning this month.

I would say that the biggest change I've had this month is that the click through rate is lower, for every ad unit. It's down by about 4% to 3.2%. It makes quite the difference.

Has anybody else noticed a lower click through rate?

I've learned over the years not to panic or get worried by the post-December drop. It's completely normal around most of the world.

2018 was an up year for my company, with earnings up over 15% over 2017. Normally we see the drop start a few days before Christmas, but this year it didn't start until the 29th, with a downward trend only through January 1. RPM is still naturally lower than it was throughout the Christmas season, but it only plunged from Dec 29 through January 1, and started climbing again on the 2nd. Its higher than it was this time last year, but I won't be terribly concerned if it drops... again that's normal.

This month started out slow for me, with Jan 1 earnings lower than the same day last year. But things improved on the 2nd and are still doing well today.

I did not think it will go lower, but I believe that this week-end will be grim.

You need to look at what it is about your specific site content and niche if the drop is down the entire year. But a 70% drop in December is not unusual, especially if the niche has a lot of seasonal buying.
