2018 was a goodish year, with a record December month.
2016 and 2017 were hellish years for me.
I hope that 2019 will be at least as good as 2018 was, but as always the first months of the year are "hibernation months", so let's see how horrible January 2019 will be.

Dropping already as the month proceeds. Not to dire levels but in particular CPC has plummeted from the highs of Oct-Dec's $1.00 - $1.50, all the way back down to $0.20 - $0.30. Obviously that's gonna make a giant difference. But it's not unexpected.

Yes january is terrible. But we already knew thats going to happen. Price click (CPC) is really bad also my PAGE CTR is about 0,90% - 1,20 % and normally its around 1,40% and 1,80%

I guess we will wait until march or april for some bigger earnings But in my case its ok since december 2018. was 3rd best month in my Adsense history since 2015. :) Good luck guys and just relax. Its normal for Adsense to have bad and good moments and earnings. Ups and downs are common in world of finance. You can see it also in stockmarket or Bitcoin and crypto markets.

Happy New year! :)

So far today I'm having my best earnings since 10th December 2018 with almost half of the first 4 days being today however this is completely normal for my sites therefore not a surprise, however it will be if things do not return to normal next week.

One thing I do know about today is that supermarket shelves in the UK are very bare with many product lines non-existent and we haven't even had any snow yet!

@RedBar

Guessing not fully stocked after Christmas.

If you bad it's now - wait until the looming no-deal brexit. At least all of my audience is the US.

Seeing definite improvements with AdSense as January goes on. Earnings are up 25% now from last year.

My advice is to be less dependent of Adsense. Through the years it's more difficult to earn the same amount as the years before. I've integrated Google Admanager more and more to rotate Adsense with affiliates and header bidding. Now my earnings of Adsense are about 50% of all earnings and still not much decreased because only the best paying ads showing up.

Yeah, I supplement with Exponential but they are down in January too. It’s just par for the course. I’m anxious to see next week.

Well, if earnings continue like they have been for the last few days this could well be the first month in over 10 years when I don't reach a triple figure month. My hosting is £25 a month. As long as I can cover this cost with a little extra then I will continue running the main website that brings in the AdSense money. However, if monthly earnings cannot cover the cost of hosting then I will have to think twice about keeping the larger website running. I might just go back to cheaper shared hosting with a couple of my personal websites.

@Ironside

Cost cutting by making more efficient use of resources is always a win.For instance i run my sites off $5 bare metal servers and i setup the server myself using a tech stack that scales better and is not resource hungry.

Well, I'm 25% lower than the first week of 2018, so it seems to be very bad, indeed.

Some schools stars tomorrow, some next week.

My AdSense earnings are actually up 30% from the same week last January. Yesterday was the best Saturday I've had for earnings in recent memory. Today, though, has been a bit of a disaster. With traffic returning to normal next week, I'm hoping today is just a fluke.

@Mayank Parmar

How about your earnings? We are in the same niche. I'm just facing with huge drop in earnings. I know this is usual for this time of year, but this year is extremely hard drop. I faced this once in 2014, but this even worse. How is your revenue? Will be glad for answer.

If this is back to "normal" then my dummy's out and I don't want to play any more, 0 clicks so far today with only 4.5 hours to run.

WTF?

Seemingly normal, I'll let it run for a few days like this however if nothing improves I shall go into lock-down and only allow bona-fide widget trade registered users, Joe Public will no longer have access to privileged information.

Google is not a business trade generator for international businesses like mine, and many other industries/trades I must add. G basically has its focus on G's expectations that does not marry with the realworld ... you may agree or disagree, I'm simply giving my point of view, period.

Ask yourself one simple question:

How could all these supposedly intelligent/clever Google employees ever know so much when they have never, ever worked in the realworld?

It has been the biggest load of BS ever propagated since ... I am not going to say it ... Let's see who dares to:-)

Traffic is going back to normal, Adsense is weaker than yesterday, but my huge problem remains Adx/DFP, where the payment is -40%.

Yup the January effect is finally here for me. But it has been pretty good, specially compared to Jan 2018.

My hosting is £25 a month.

Ironside, this isn't the first time you have mentioned this. When I first got my domain (around 2002) I took a recommendation from a colleague for a hosting company (in the UK). The hosting was quite expensive, but I paid up and didn't do any of my own research. Adsense earnings were far higher in the past, so it didn't bother me too much. Some years ago my page views plummeted (as did my Adsense earnings) and when I got my annual hosting bill (similar to what you are paying) it just seemed crazy paying the amount I was paying.

I started to look around and found that a lot of small hosting companies had consolidated and been bought out by large companies. I decided to give one of these large UK companies a try (not sure if forum rules will allow me to name it). My conclusion is that I should have done this years ago. They work on economies of scale and are able to offer a very good service for a very low price. Different packages are available and I chose the most basic package because it offered all I needed and was cheapest.

Since I changed hosting companies around three years ago there have been two major outages caused by infrastructure problems. The last one was when a mechanical digger sliced through fibre optic cables laid in a farmer's field. However, apart from the two incidents, the hosting has been fine. I think it is actually faster than the previous company and far, far cheaper. I haven't needed to contact their support staff very often, but when I have done their support has been very good. I now pay 35 quid a year and bear in mind that even with expensive hosting companies you can't be guaranteed 100% up-time.

Unless you get millions of page view or have a really mission critical site I can't see the justification of paying several hundred pounds a year when you can get perfectly acceptable hosting for a fraction of the cost. Up to you, of course, but it may be worth looking into.

Best January in years. EPC is down as usual after Christmas, but higher CTR is making up for that.

Yep, the problems from last year seem to be gone. Earnings are now up nearly 50% over the same period in Jan 2018.
