Don't know how everybody else is doing, but after having my second highest day all month yesterday, today has hit rock bottom. Earnings down 24x just from yesterday!?! Sure AdSense, whatever you say.. :-|
Mine has been horrible the whole month but over the last two days I have gone in to the new ad block center to specifically block ads and accounts. Today it doubled! I had about 40% of the ads in there that were total CRAP. Chinese, Norwegian, latin, etc. I run a tobacco site and about 20% of the ads were how to quit smoking! ARGH! On the other plus side, now that I cleared out the crap NO ONE was clicking on, MORE good ads have come in to fill the empty slots!
In looking at my web stats, I notice a big jump up in Google traffic on the 18th, the very same day I had the lowest earnings all month. Normally, I'd attribute more traffic equal to more earnings. Not with AdSense.
Here's what I think is going on: AdSense has safeguards in place to sniff out fraud, and spikes in traffic with a sudden rise in clicks might trigger an arrest. I now suspect my earnings for the 18th are being reviewed and (at least I hope!), will be released as soon as they prove to be legit. It'll be interesting to see how the next few days play out.
@Play_Bach, I think you're on the right track. I noticed final earnings at the end of the month seem closer to reality, then it was. A lot less seems shaved off. In fact last month a little was added. I suspect the lag in earnings/clicks are the cause of Google "paying more attention to each days stats" as appose to the end of each month. Too much complaining I suspect.
I have had one click from Switerland that has out-performed ALL my USA clicks! Writing that I have to also say that my USA clicks so far are 21.4% of average and EPC 48.8% of average with Page views at 38.3%.
And for those who are are wondering about the new image SERPs:
Page Views 25.8% CTR 80.9% Earnings 19,8%
Good job Google, excellent job, another couple of days like this and you will be banned from my sites you scraper scum!
This month is absolute write-off for me. I'm down about 50% on usual CPC and RPM; CPCs are usually £0.18-£0.30, and from 1st Jan onwards I've struggled to achieve £0.10. RPMs usually £1.30-£1.50, and it's been a steady £0.50-£0.60 all month.
My traffic is the same; in fact, it's increased, as it does every January. I get around 1.5-2m pageviews a month, and CTR is still pretty much the same, but earnings are 50% down.
December was pretty good, but things just crashed from Jan 1st onwards. I seriously hope this is just a new year thing and not permanent.
January 2012 was a record month on my site, and I was expecting the same this year.
WHy the f*** does Adsense do this to us?! I use a couple of other ad networks too, and they're down too, so I guess it must just be a January thing.
With the amount of pageviews I get (good, target traffic too - I run a sports website), I should be making more, especially with 1.5-2m pageviews a month.
Let's hope it all sorts itself out for everyone. AAAGH!
This month has been really strange as it started strong, got weak, and now appears to be strong again. I was digging a little deeper into my stats today and noticed that an increase in traffic from one country is responsible for dragging down my Overall Page RPM. Before figuring this out I was blaming it on lack of advertisers in U.S. but apparently that isn't the case for me at all. So, I'm hoping the month ends like it began and the year just gets better.
I might do a little better than Jan 2012 by a few percentage points. Not even close to 2011 earnings but heading in the right direction until Google unleashes a new animal update. Since 2013 is Year of the Snake, its going to be the Snake Update and bite everyone.
Traffic has been obviously light the whole day but CPC is above normal and CTR is a little on the high-normal side so from my point of view the advertisers knew it was going to be like that today. If it continues through the week then it might suggest something else but for now there's no need to freak out.
I'm puzzled as to what happened to the new images layout that was trialled on Saturday and Sunday, was it such a financial failure for Google as well that they've withdrawn it? If as many were hit by the same percentage as me then it wouldn't be surprising to see it consigned to the wastebin.
Monday not only came back to normal with my second-best day of the month for earnings but also my highest Page Views of the month too.
I couldn't remember where people were commenting that their "Current Balance" numbers were higher than the "Last Month" numbers but here's one I've never seen. After our payment was issued, I refresh the account main page expecting the current balance at zero but instead it's ($0.29). Payment history page confirms it's "Amount owed".
Everything is cool though, today was a nail biter but we did OK.
Yesterday was another complete disaster. Last "good" day (which was very poor if compared to 2009), was Jan 17. Since then it's been some of the worst AdSense days ever. Makes no sense at all to me anymore.
