Phenomenal day yesterday and an amazing month of November, but if this morning is anything to go by, December could see an end to all of that. A dramatic downfall so far, but it's still early days. I guess advertisers will start throwing less and less money at things when Christmas draws too close.
Today I've already made above average earnings, with almost 15 hours left to go. If it continued indefinitely I could now live on my Adsense earnings, though of course I neither expect the run to continue, nor would I rely on Adsense as a main source of revenue.
December is usually the last of my better months. Things drop off pretty dramatically for me in January. My site is outdoor sports related and doesn't pick up again until March or April.
My click thru rate at adsense is .07 % according to their method of counting which counts individual ads rathar than the entire creative. I calculate it at about .15% when figuring ctr by creative. This will vary depending on how many of the following sizes you use. (3 ads in 300x250s, 5 ads in 160x600s)
Very decent numbers the first two days of December as well as so far today and I was really in the cellar in November. Keeping my fingers crossed it's a lasting trend (anyone know if there was a Panda tweak at the start of the month?).
Interesting observations. The last two days have been noticably low for me with about 1/2 of normal CTR and ECPM - while impressions remained normal.
Today, I find that I am at the best earnings day of the month already with less than half the day gone, and with low traffic (weekends usually lower traffic days for me) I am seeing high paying clicks coming through from my top earning countries (US, UK & Canada). It makes me wonder if Google holds back on reporting high paying clicks for a few days sometimes -- perhaps they give them greater scrutiny.
Or, maybe just the law of averages evening things out.
November was also the first time ever for me when earnings were below those of the previous year. December looks much the same.
It's got to this state - I'm now designing a new website specifically for an affiliate which I know (from a previously owned website) performs above Adsense, even when it was at its best.
I'm also looking very carefully at how I earn money from an Adsense type alternative I use. They have no analytics, no reports other then bare earnings daya by day but income from them is going up and Adsense income is going down.
I've had very good success in chanelling my efforts into ranking for a particular term in Google but their own ads at the top of the page make it difficult to earn much.
That's me for December to March, leave Adsense efforts alone and concentrate on an affilate aimed site and my other Adsense alternative.
I'm not one of the big weebsites but I do turn over in excess of half a million visitors a month so this is no statistical anomally. Lower eCPM, higher vistor numbers and lower income on the Adsense front.
4 or 5 amazing days, but seems to have dropped down again yesterday and today. Still good, but a bit disappointing having been given a taster of what I could have. Will have to work harder on my site in 2012.
Things have been great since Cyber Monday with the past 2 days being the best in many months. All metrics much higher than usual, especially RPM, and that's good 'cuz things usually dry up the week after Xmas.
