Google Gift Has Arrived

Doubt that I'm the first, but this is sure early compared to last year when I was sitting in the bathroom feeling all rejected with a razor blade waiting to open a vein if that Google gift didn't show up the day before xmas.....

Just kidding, I use an electric razor, and it showed up :)

Tonight, the knock at the door came and it was the Fedex Santa once again bringing goodies to all the good boys and girls that shoved AdSense in their visitors faces all year long.

Everyone knows I've been naughty, but this gift sure is nice!

The gift specs are as follows:

* 3.6 inch TFT digital photo frame
* 960 x 240 TFT screen, 16 mega-color
* Picture: JPG format
* Audio: MP3, WMA, WAV and records WAV itself
* Video: ASF only

Got mine today (we're in the UK - I guess we average about $3k on Adsense, have given up spending on Adwords, but might have parted with $1k when it mattered).

When I first opened the box, I thought yipee, Google have given me something useful again.

Then I waste an hour trying to get it to work.

Brother (fellow partner in crime) comments that after completely s£$£"ing us over this year, a picture frame is a bit of an insult.

I still have to remind him that big G send us 80% of our traffic, and without them, we don't have a business, so they kind of balance.

Now it works, I'm going to fill it with images reminding me of all the things I want to get done next year, and places I want to visit.

One nice thing about the low resolution is that photo-shopped images can look pretty convincing. So I've got one of a Virgin 747 taking off from Saba. For anyone in the travel business, I think it's a nice reminder about doing the impossible!

The Google logo might be a reminder that they are still a very important part of what we do, but the rest will be down to us....

I will never forget the best post I had ever seen on webmasterworld.. last year, with the discussion about last year's google gift, someone wrote that they had received their gift.. it was a PONY! and it was in the front yard and the word GOOGLE was written on the side of the pony... I laughed outloud on that one. Hmmm guess you had to be there! ;)

When you get your pony, don't tell where it came from, claim instead that it is a picture frame just as the shipping documents advise.

Will have to go manual with the picture frame now.
It is rather tiring getting off the lazyboy to switch pictures on the hutch every few minutes, though!

My kids got mine working for me, I like it. Something about putting the batteries in it and hooking it to the PC with that USB cable thing. I've got it on the mantle rotating pictures, quite a conversation piece and the batteries seem to be holding up, always a plus.

I'm UK. I got one last year, though not the year before. My adsense earnings are pretty high, but I also put a few £K through adwords each month as well... Dunno if that's got anything to do with it.

Two turned up together!

(UK AdSense and Adwords Accounts started June 06. $10,000 on Adsense in October, £3,000 on AdWords in October)

It seems I appear in G's database twice - once with my name spelt wrong. Surname, Business Name and Address are all correct.

Now I'm getting concerned in case Google's error leads them to believe I have opened multiple accounts - which is certainly not the case.

Should I let them know? Should I send a pressie back? (If so how do I prise it away from my wife?)

I'd forget about sending the present back...i doubt they would ask you to do that but i would certainly clear up the misspelt name issue with them.
Just mention the name thing to them and leave all other questions to them.

I just received a Christmas card from Google today, but no gift. Maybe I do not earn enough to get a gift.

I got the gift today but i don't know if i will use it, it's a small screen that you can't really see from a distance but can't complain about something i paid nothing for so thanks to google.
Seems to be from China although i haven't examined it closely enough to check for marks but the "english" in the instructions shows it certainly wasn't made in the states!
It contained a european two pin adaptor which was nice but useless in the UK so if mains power is needed it will need a european to UK adaptor on top!
To clarify the opening post made by incredibill, it states it shows MP4 (M-PEG 4) video which means it should play all DiVX. XViD and possibly Nero H264 encoded movies, haven't tested it yet though!
Customs certificate states it is worth $ 75. A 1 GB SD Ram card pluggd into it should let you watch an entire movie on it in good quality so could be useful for travelling on the plane,train or ( if you are not a premium publisher as i am not ) , the bus!

I got an error when tried to load some JPG pics, but it was fixed when I use the software that comes with it to convert the files (really don't know what it does but the files remain JPG format after the conversion). The batteries ran out so quickly. It'd be nice if the batterries recharge itself when the frame plugged into the electric outlet.

I just got a card but no gift yet. Has anyone gotten a card and a gift, or does a card mean no gift? I got gifts the last two years.

I got a blue google unsigned card and the digital frame in one package . I think it is unlikely that they send you a present separately if you just get a card.

Mine contained a multi-country adapator that included a Uk Three Pin 13A plug and 2 different 2 pin plugs!

I've been unable to install the cd without errors, and haven't managed to save any new images successfully - but I'm still dielighted with the present. $75 sounds about right (assuming I can get it to work)
