December 2007 Google SERP Changes

Any thoughts on this? Up until recently, my site did not rank in the top 1000 in Google for my main search term. I did a bit of research, made a lot of changes, bought some software to help even. Since then it had a dramatic increase in placement. In the space of around two months it moved up to place 19.

I have not made any changes in last 4 weeks, but it has still been climbing......until yesterday. It has now dropped out of the top 1000 again. The site still ranks for other words and has not been dumped all together.

I am feeling a bit confused. Could any one offer advice please?

My biggest site has been jumping from SERP#1 to SERP#-16-20 and back several times during the last 5-6 weeks.

Just noticed that the fourth (4) drop/collapse has begun, intesting to see if it lasts the same amount of time as the two latests dives (both 3 days).

And SERPs are just getting less and less good each time, now even entertainment/gaming sites are showing among search results I'm monitoring (nothing to do with gaming/entertainment).

The site has now gone up to 110 - not impressive but at least it is moving back a bit.

One thing to notice is that results counts vary massively according to which datacentre you are looking at (there are more than 40 Class-C IP blocks to choose from - I usually look at the **.**.**.107 IP on each) and those counts also seem to change every few days. This has been going on for months, and continues now.

My traffic has taken a hit since thanksgiving. I expected it to bounce back but it is still down by 20%

Yeah, Google has spread their infrastructure around the world, and each server farm (probably) occupies one Class-C IP block.

Each datacentre appears to have slightly different data within and each show slightly different SERPs, some display stuff that is very very different.

There are many lists of IP addresses out there, but most are very incomplete. I provided some updates about a year ago, more than trebling the size of previous lists.

Thanks gs1md. I found this link with a few on: [seroundtable.com...] - a year out of date but enough for me to play with. As you say SERP varies according to which ip i enter.

On the one i was using for the original post i have now crept back up to 19, so crisis over. Now I just need to work out how to get rid of the '9' from the '19'.

I have not spent much time in this forum since the yoyo days after the Florida update. But I'm in an industry that has been pretty much dominated by manufacturers, .org's, and etailers. Over the last few months I began noticing a few meaningless adsense sites creep into the first two pages of the organic SERPS. It really suprises me because you really have to know the industry to get anywhere. It's an industry that is only known well by guys that do actual physical labor(strenuous at that) at one time or another in their life.

There's absolutely no way these sites got there on natural linking popularity. Again, I probably went off topic, but changes are indeed afoot. Scary! Money talks...paid for links.

Anyone Else Notice Big SERPs Changes?
Or is it just me?

One of my two site (that are both in the same industry) lost major placement in the Google SERP's today, hundreds of terms went from page 1 to page 6 and worse. But the other site is still ranking fine, unaffected.

Has this happened to anyone else?

You might have lost position in some datacentres, but I bet you rank just the same as you ever did in some others.

aok88: I see big serp changes today. It did not effect me, but most everyone around me moved about.

A tool that shows serp movement shows a fair amount of changes for today.

This very same thing happened about a year ago:

*.co.uk and *.ca sites in the top ten USA serps for a keyword that also has a *.com site, with the .co.uk and .ca sites being of no value in the USA serps.

I confirm that for same sites there are changes.
few examples:

- rankings varies depening on the adverbs: for some sites there is a big difference in ranking depending on the adverb; the adverb IN is very important; see hotel new york compared to hotel in new york.

- some sites ranks subpages better than homepage

I hope it's a temporary glitch, because I can not understand the moving...

Cheching again, it varies during the day.

When results are strange, the number of results are 10 % of the normal results; for example for "widget1 widget2" phrase normally 50.000.000 results and during the strange phase only 5.000.000 results, usually less.....

Something big is happening on our largest property, 7% drop since the 3rd and holding with widely different phrases showing up for top refers.

Hi,

I'm still trying to find out exactly what allinanchor is measuring. Previously I was #1 for allinanchor:search term and #1 for search term.

Now I'm #4 for allinanchor:search term and #4 for search term.

Other sites in the top 10 for this term match these results.

I'm convinced that this is not a coincidence and if I can get what Google is measuring as indicated in allinanchor back up to #1 I'll be back htere as well in normal web search.

I have different rankings when results are a lot less.
My rankings ( in English ) are the same on all other google.xx domains: when I seaarch using any other google.. domain, the number of results are normal.

Weird, I just happened to be looking at my log files and I noticed that Googlebot is spidering my site pretty aggressively. I haven't seen that behavior since the days of big updates (pending updates). We just put a tremendous amount of effort into cleaning up old links and improving our content. Maybe it will pay off.

My sites have improved their position wtih major key words but each page with unique content lost position.
Most of product pages have lost positions and they are at the bottom.
from 1200 pages only 160 are not supplemental
How can I change this?

Could it be they finally made a change to their supplemental index, I see all of my supplemental URLs are searchable now.
