I know that it's early but one of my sites just had about 40 pages indexed. Has this happened to anyone else?

On Friday I was showing that Google had found some new pages on my client site by following the sitemap URL. Today they are gone from the Google database. They are standard pages and the rest of the site isn't 'gone'. Anybody else see a roll back in indexing?

This is flippin' ridiculous, 150 posts from edgy SEO's and webmasters WAITING ever so impatiently for the dance. I can't claim to be any better, I've checked this subject at least five times today. This leads me to a subject that I heard a little bit about earlier in this post....

YOU MIGHT BE A GOOGLEBOARD JUNKY IF.......

you dream about link text and keyword proximity....
your ultimate fantasy is PR10
your ultimate nightmare is PR0
you know every search engine that google and dmoz power
you have this forum on your hotlinks tab
you notice within one hour of when the dance has begun
you know what 'the dance' is....
you have ever made a bad pun on this board about 'the dance'

Anyone else care to contribute to my worthless topic,
while we nervously await this month's update?

stuntdubl...

...or it could be just the fact that a lot of these people rely on Google as part of their living and the update can have a possitive or negative impaqt on that!

I think we all fantasize about a PR10, the thing is we wouldn't need it if we could get it. It's a cruel world.

Barbara
I had the same thing happened to me. Even before Friday Google was showing some very new pages, than they were gone, and nothing since then.

If Ms. Googlebot shows up at all today, I am gonna interrupt the spidering and take her dancing. Hope she's wearing heels. ;)

Google seems to have picked up my index page over the last few weeks (from a never in the google index before site) and it has been going in and out of the results ever since..

Now i know i have to wait for this update to see where i end up but when google finds a NEW site does it ever spider the whole site straight away? all i have showing is the index page and i know that i have plenty of links to my other pages within the site.

Is it a known fact that NEW sites wont get the (other page from) listing on its 1st appearance?

<Is it a known fact that NEW sites wont get the (other page from) listing on its 1st appearance?>

Dave_S I had a new site indexed last month and all the pages were indexed. If googlebot has crawled other pages from the site it they should go into the index as well when it updates....

Many thanks for putting my mind at rest, every time i see the page re-appear in the listings im gutted that its just the mainpage!

Lets hope they update soon, reading all these posts makes me paranoid about all sorts of things i never even thought about before finding this forum! :-/

I have a site added since the last big update. Initially the index page appeared, then maybe a week or 10 days later all pages appeared (only maybe 10 pages total in the site, tho.) They faded in and out of the index, and now with this new update on the horizon, we are about to see how well all the pages rank.

www3 is showing different results to www for searches (eg. "football"). i'm new to this particular dance craze so does that mean anything?

Yesterday, I began noticing the number of pages available in the SERPs for a particular keyword set was identical on www2 and www3, both of which were very different from www. That phenomenon continues today.

re: "football" it gets different at about 25 links down. OK, bad example, but they're definitely different.

What i've got is one window open on www and one on www3, both maximised. Then make sure the scroll bar matches on the two windows, and flick between them.

edit:
...and also what Beachboy has been saying.

ikbehnet1, you have to do a "link:" search, not a regular search, to check if the dance has started.

example: link:www.yahoo.com

I am seeing identical results on www, www2 and www3; ergo, the dance has not begun.

-google showing old descriptions on www2 for non refreshd pages.
-google has not crawled the new links on indexed pages.

i think google needs a few ours to download the web.
but there is something happening.

sure hope i'm not wrong. but there is so many diffrence between my sites im www and www2&3 that i can't look over it. it happened out of nowhere just ours ago.

You know, we can maybe lower the anxiety hereabouts by remembering the date. It's the 23rd (in the USA anyway). This update might well not occur for two or three more days. Maybe going out to a good movie will bring down the blood pressure some....
