steveb, I believe the 64.x.x.x data center has the change, but I'm not positive. We use different terminology inside Google. :)

Powdork, I'm not sure if you'd call it an update exactly (different algorithms play more of a role than different data). But I'm guessing the change will probably roll out over the course of the weekend.

Is the 216 IP basically www2?

What is the full IP that you guys are checking?

[64.233.161.99...] still looks awesome to me, but things have definately been jumping around in my catagories.

I'm new here and this is probably old news, but I thought many might not know about it. Have any of you seen the site showing results for the different Google data centers side by side for any search terms?

As much as I would like to see the 64.233.161.99 results go live, I am seeing 216.239.37.98 propogating into the normal google SERPs with no variation on reloading.

Are people still seeing 64.233.161.99 in www?

64 had best go live, or else, I will have to call all the directories I currently pay to advertise with and tell THEM how much they need to pay ME to link to me.

The results I am seeing are alternating about every 10-20min between 216 and 64.

I've been seeing the 64.233.161.99 results in www for at least an hour now. It is good for me, I got my keyword back to page 3, it was missing from the serps for many months. Maybe the filter of having too consistant incoming anchor text that was implemented a while back has been lifted?

Metrostang,
Thanks so much for that link! Now I understand what people are seeing when they say "the results are really favoring anchortext", etc. Good sign that the NEW button shows 64. I'm still hoping that's the winner. I've only been seeing 216 all night, without a break.

Dooomed...

"Maybe the filter of having too consistant incoming anchor text that was implemented a while back has been lifted?"

Or maybe this myth and the other voodoo filter myths never actually existed?

When looking at 64 and 216, I'm starting to wonder if 64 has PR and or link text figured into it already and 216 results do not. Just a thought based on the searches I've done.

Don't know if it was voodoo jive or not steveb, but I detrashed one of mine and it came back. Other sites in the cat came back long before but they weren't at the same point percentage wise.

No begging -- especially when the results are not that different between 64 and 216!...

For my major keywords, keyphrases, and page rankings, the differences between 64, 216, Florida, and Austin appear to be insignicant--and I'm in a competitive and heavily commercialized category. I realize that other site owners are seeing much greater fluctuations, and I can't wondering how much of that is due to optimizing for the fad du jour (which may result in a site's being vulnerable to Google's tweaking of this or that part of the algorithm).

Ah but there is a world of difference for product related keyword phrases when on one you are #2 & #5 as compared to #10 & #14

I'll just sit tight and wait 'till everything settles :)

I think this update simply reflects the fact that G was having trouble crawling DMOZ and has now sorted that out. This would account for all the "missing index/home pages." Shoot me down!

For our market I am still seeing major difference between 64 and 216. We are back to #2 on 64 but only up to #20 on 216.

Also seeing 216 consistantly on www since early afternoon here. Going to pray that when I wake up tomorrow that 64 will have taken over but not giving it much hope. If 216 is the final SERPs not much of an improvement for us.

216 has now migrated to all the former data centers and has replaced 64 on AOL. Looking bad :(

I am noticing that the 216 results are pretty similar to austin. The 64 results seem to be the best results I have ever seen if you are looking for information on a particular destination, there are relevant local sites showing on 64, on 216 it is more national directory sites that mention our particular area, this is for a search on "town keyword keyword". Our rankings are stong for both as we are a major content site for our area.

I've been seeing 216 results on www all evening. If those are the true results, well, time to wake up everybody, the dream is over..

Google Guy did say that he is "not positive" 64 is the update since they use different terms internally.

Not seeing 64 on www. Only 216.

64 looks too good to be true?

I would stick with what GoogleGuy did come out and say with the 64 results. The 219. looks like a mix between Austin and Florida and is pretty grim in just general relevent terms.

Have some faith here. Speculation will lead to a mob forming. :)

google guy did clarify in a later post that it was the 64.**** site. i specifically asked him to and he responded here:
"highman/Robert123, I'm expecting the changes at the 64.233.161.x data center to move to the other data centers over the course of the weekend"

so lets summarize
1. they have been seen on the www today--first time to my knowledge
2. 216 is still more frequent
3. it is only sat. night--
4. the 216 results still differ greatly

One more update like this and regardless of what I think, Googles days will be numbered.

Our hits are up from as far back as September, yet our ranking in Google has continued to diminish since Florida. How can this be you ask? Obviously the end users are seeking the info elswhere.

I just checked our refering URL's for the last 30 day: MSN is our #1 referrer, where Google use to be.

Now, if our total hit counts had continued to diminish since Florida (like our ranking has), I'd think, so what? But that has not been the case. And if Google is "filtering" things in such a way that don't make "adsense" to the end user, they will no doubt go elsewhere, like I did three years ago when Yahoo started telling me what THEY thought I should be looking at...

Gonna be hard to sell Adsense when nobody is there to click 'em...

strange observation

the 216 results have revealed something interesting to me--and in my opinion a flaw.

i am on top of the third page for "wiget rentals".
however, my site does not even show in the index..i stopped looking after page 25 for "widget rental"

plural/singular searches should reveal somewhat similar search results..not identical, but at lease somewhat similar?
No?

216 results seem to favor reciprocal linking too more as well

I don't think there is any relation to Adwords...
we were killed in both Florida and Austin, and 216 is not looking too much better. We have been paying big bucks for adwords since Florida.

OK you guys in the States go to bed now. It is our shift in Europe. Albeit 7 in the morning central european time. Still same old results here and it looks like it will be another day or 2 before they have migrated so leave that refresh button alone. Thank god I am driving to Poland this morning or I would be wasting my life looking at some google data centre.

slyguy is right on google.ca 64 is showing.
I am curious if 64 will stick. I am almost curious about how many variations of the Google index there are. At least we know of two 64 and 216, but there could be others. Has anyone seen other variations?

I like staying these variations. I figured out how to get past the google filter in the past and these variations give valuable imfo on what makes Google tick. As I said before each look like different levels of the same filter being applied to the index. This leads to the following possibilities:
1) Google will use both 64 and 216 and watch to which surfers prefer and benefits to adwords. In this case 64 represents almost pre-florida and 216 represents Austin.
2) Alternatively, they will launch 64 and things will go back to normal. Eventually, the filter will be weakened across the board for major and minor terms. Possibly with a major update in a month's time. Google users will try to forget the last 3 months of chaos.
3) They will launch 216 and the path of filtering out commercial sites will intensify. google will began a new era of searching where directories rule and real content will fade. Sites will have to either pay for adwords or adapt. In this case it could mean the eventual demise of Google.

One thing for sure, no matter what happens we should be very careful about placing our faith in one search engine. The best system is one where no one search engine dominates. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
