casperkor

I feel for you!

Without seeing your site, it is hard to figure out what went awry.

If you sticky mail me your site address, I could take a look and give you an opinion of what may be causing a problem.:)

I cant stop smiling, we have a small site with about 12 pages, weve gone from page 5 on fist index in november to 4th on the first page, today. to say im pleased is an understatement. :) funny thing is, we showed up 4th just over a week ago then dropped out to page 3 now to page 1, can we expect to stay there or will there still be biggish changes over the next couple of days?

cheers
Lee

edit:- just to echo rogues sentiments below, im sure what ive learnt of this site has helped loads, cheers all!

I have to say all the stuff I have learned at WW has produced a great update for me. Plus a lot of the sites I was trying to beat were cloaking or heavily cross linked. Now I am on top and they are either gone or in the abyss somewhere! Thanks all!

>>Like on one of my keyword phrases .. one site that is ahead has two of the front page spots..What is the purpose? Why wouldn't Google want to give someone a different option as opposed to two for the same site, for the same keyword phrase?

A site listed ahead of me has this same clustering and I imagine that it's due to those pages being more relevant to the search query than mine. I believe the clustering is done in order to provide the user with more choices. There is a link below the indented result "More results from www.whatever.com" This is done when there are more relevant results from the same domain, and I think Google defaults to showing two results from a site.

coconutz..thanks for the response.

Honestly, because of my sites unique approach.. if you were to take a survey of the people searching whether they would want the "2 for 1" result or any of the other 8 that are ahead of my site for the keyword phrase.. I am 100%
confidant that they would prefer my site first.
I am not just saying that.. because I am a sore loser or anything.. it is the truth.

On another note.. Can somebody please explain to me the following in "New at this Talk".

Well I see on www2 and www3 how I am no longer holding as good of positions for several targeted keywords.

On www though.. my search results are still the same along with the 642,000 result.

Why the SLOW TORTURING DEATH? And when will it be over?

In other words when , in your past experience does the SHOE DROP and www shows the same as www2 and www3?

In my expereince, for the most part what your seeing on www2 and 3 will end up being what shows on www.

For the most part, as the dance is not over and strange things happen.

My site is still not showing up at all on www2 or www3.

Not only does it not show up in the listings, it doesnt even show up if you check back links.

If you do a search on its URL, it only shows up in the Google directory, but not the site itself.

I think I have been Googled. Does anyone know what may have happened or have suggestions on what I can do?

I have about 200 backlinks into my site.

Currently, my PR as reported by the toolbar with and without the "HOSTS" file changed is a 5. I was hoping for a 6 this month.

I did not use any spamming techniques.

To my knowledge, I didnt have any downtime last month.

Any ideas?

coconutz, I could not agree more with what you say, Google should somehow not list 2 pages from the same site, seems pretty pointless.

What bugs me is the sites that are duplicated on two domains so they get two places in the top serps. That company that tells 'about' various topics is one and a major magazine is another. They are good sites but I don't think it's right they get double top spots. Actually I think the first company I mentioned should have closed down their old domain long ago. I don't really understand why the magazine is on two domains.

The result is that I am 2 places lower in the serps in my top single search word. And since I am hovering around 20 I'd really like to move up just a little.

The other strange ones are the two sites that have absolutely nothing on their page. Well one has graphics and no text and the other is just blank. Yet they rate in the top 10 based on incoming text link. Just weird.

Are the new results showing up for any www searches yet, or just www2/3?

I am trying to figure out if the changes should be starting to affect my traffic yet.

Freshie has been giving me huge traffic swings recently. I have no idea what "normal" is right now, much less if it is up or down from the last deep index traffic.

>>I think I have been Googled.

SkyLighter,

Thanks for the laugh..I needed that!

Everyone made the "DANCE" sound like it was going to
be this amazing thing.. so being my first one I got all
caught up emotionally. I have been anticipating and watching since around Feb. 20th and now.. I am seeing my
traffic slowly coming to a screeching halt. I feel like
I have been through the ringer.

Any words of encouragement?

Hello,

I noticed Google was dancing last night.
Is it over?

Because... my 17th ranked site on one of the most important keyword, now shows at 105th!

Am i really LOST on this? or is the music still on?

Thank you!

Dance usually lasts for 5 to 7 days. It will fade in and out of the regular google.com. It should stay up on www2 and www3 the entire time.

Right now, it reads;
www: 17th
www2: 105th
www3: 105th

what can i do?

Thanks!

Analyze what made you drop. Thats probably what you are going to see go live. Work on incoming links and more targeted phrases with more unique content.

Now I am trying to analyze what went wrong for me to drop over 200 places and this is what I have come up with.

I did change from a plural main page title to a singular one last month - it seemed to have a slight improvement on other SEs.

I had several almost identical pages put up last month that were aimed at different countries (the only difference was the currency on the buy buttons) that may have caused a penalty so I've deleted them today.

I had one link from a chatboard that is showing up as 65 different links - they aren't actually on that site anymore so they won't show up next month. If these were the cause they won't be there next month.

My site doesn't have many links to it but that hasn't seemed too affect the rankings in previous months but I'm trying to get more.

Is it hard to get back near the top after a drop like this? Any advice at all would be appreciated...thanks

casperkor, sounds like your site is new? If so, I wouldn't worry at all. If freshbot is finding you, then our deep crawl should find you not too long after that.

Hope that helps--don't panic yet! :)

Woooowwww!

Thanks GoogleGuy! IS THAT REALLY YOU?!.. you made me feel better already...
I feel like the Googlegods are speaking to me from the clouds or something.

I needed that.. just something to let me know that in the
long run my hard work will pay off.

Just a ray of hope to keep persisting on.

Toss the coin for two of my sites. (the one I was paid to tweek is going from #56 to #2) Thankyou everyone! Reputation was on the line last month.

My own commercial site from #53 to #65..............hmmmmmmm , maybe I need to pay myself for it to work. Prior it was #199 to #41 to #46 to #53, so I have dome something monumental over the months.

Time to step back and look at it from another angle.

Well GoogleGuy as you seem to be the answer to all our prayers - I was wondering if you could give me a ball park guess (based on previous weird months, and your obvious expertise) when you would expect the deep crawl to start, and also why was the dance so late this month - does this mean the next dance will be pushed back ?

What if freshbot visits you a least 3 times a week and yet Deepcrawl does not seem to want to go past my index page. I am looking for any suggestions.

Thanks..

Garry "My own commercial site from #53 to #65..............hmmmmmmm , maybe I need to pay myself for it to work."

That's funny as heck! I know the feeling. I can not complain this month, my site is doing ok as a % change from last month but I am already on page one and five for what most would dream about.

Folks - be safe, work hard but take baby steps (See the movie "What about Bob" - think that's the name - funny as heck), no spamming, no trickery etc, it does pay off.

What is so funny is all my clients are doing just great and I am holding steady, I think I should pay Gary $1000.00 for his services and then Gary could pay me $1001.00

Then we could both move up to page one and we would break even on payments... of course I make a dollar for the idea right, hahahaha.

All best to all weba-maximizers!

I have a question about the next update. i am rolling out a new index page. Should I A:Use the existing index.cfm or should I B: change the name all together to home.cfm. Reason I am asking I have been in the last four updates and my index.cfm page is PR0 my www.domain.com is greybar. I have email Google they say no penalities (not banned) yet as I stated earlier Gbot fresh crawls me about 3 times a week. Wandering if a page name would help or hender me. Thanks. Keep Googling!

HI, I have checked www2, www3, and www-cw and the cache all show a version of my site that is about 3 weeks old, what would cause google not to use the latest version?
Thanks
