Electric Shavers

Do any of you guys use them?

Just curious, do any of you chaps use an electric shaver on a regular basis?

I used one about 10 years ago (a remington) and got fed up with it rather quickly because it was uncomfortable to use. The fast moving cutting blades made the protective foil hot and this caused an unpleasant sensation on the face, causing irritation.

Have shavers progressed since then? are they really a viable alternative to wet shaving?

Be glad to get your opinions.

wet shave - Gilette sensor excel. Always does the trick.

Also has anyone tried a cut throat and hot towel affair at a traditional barbers. I went to one for my sisters wedding with the groom and the best man - now thats a close shave! :)

Yup, sensor exel for me to, after a bath, when the hairs are soft anyway, then lots of hot water and foam, brilliant. I used to use a horrible cheepo electric, but I smashed it up after it tugged on my face for the 100th time (and I had a whisky hangover). That was the end of the electrics.

Wet shave is such a nice luxury thing to carry with you when traveling as well. No bulky electric and looking for a power point, just a reflective surface and some water and your cooking :-)

Going for a nice bath and a shave soon...

Btw, Mach 3.
I was given a Braun electric a few years back and it's taken that long to grow the skin back on my face. Oddly enough it never did take any whiskers off while it removed the flesh from my body 1 painful strip at a time :P

I tried several electrics over the years and they were all rubbish, until a friend recommended a Panasonic es8003 3d thingey. Absolutely brilliant, haven't used a blade since :-)

i agreethat mach3 is the best man can get :)

i never use eletric razor - they are supposed to be getnler to skin that "razor" but they arent - i got irritation once i used it...mach3 will do it!

Well electric shavers do grind hairs back into the skin - nice!

But I had a bad experience once with a Mach 3 whereby a bit of skin above my lip came off - it stung for ages and didn't look too good either!

You cannot beat the Phillishave. I use it in the shower most days and my skin never gets dry while shaving in the shower. Not too cheap but I got about 20 of the shaving gel packs free with it.

europeforvisitors - heh. If I were betting, I would bet that most people who read this forum probably use Google- but that many computer users who just got their computers are using MSN (due to it being bundled with IE/etc)- and that eventually everyone turns to Google.

One would only use other search engines in case Google didn't seem to turn up what you were looking for in the results, aka they haven't indexed the site and hopefully another engine has. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck finding things when they weren't in Google SERPs. heh.

See, this is the problem with the Holidays! Electric shavers are advertised on TV like they're the best things in the world- some breakthrough innovation . Then your girlfriend or wife goes out and buys you one. She thinks, 'wow, that must be nice, my boyfriend still uses a wet razor!'

When you receive it you have to explain to her why she MUST RETURN IT IMMEDIATELY! She starts crying and convinces you to try it. We all know what happens next: BURNT NECK AND CHEEKS!

i think my dad had a panasonic electric. i used it in my youth and the chewed my neck up. the worst razor burn i have ever had.

when the mach 3 came out i switched to that and had no real problems. other then a terible skin infection.

i seriously hate shaving. currently i will clip my beard using some cheapo hair clippers about once a week. and i will shave part of my neck and face with the mach 3 about once a week as well.

there is some new electric out there where you can dial your sensitivity level. so it could be set to 5 o'clock shadow mode. this would kind of be nice. i just cant justify spending 100 dollars on one. perhaps if there was a money back guarantee i would try it.

You know, even though -- as I mentioned before -- I usually use a Panasonic Sonic 3 wet/dry electric, with regular shaving gel, I use a Sensor Excel sometimes. And among the days I always use that regular blade are the mornings when my girlfriend is over... because that's what she wants to watch. So I'd probably never get an electric as a gift.
