Electric Shavers

Do any of you guys use them?

Just curious, do any of you chaps use an electric shaver on a regular basis?

I used one about 10 years ago (a remington) and got fed up with it rather quickly because it was uncomfortable to use. The fast moving cutting blades made the protective foil hot and this caused an unpleasant sensation on the face, causing irritation.

Have shavers progressed since then? are they really a viable alternative to wet shaving?

Be glad to get your opinions.

From the link above it was the braun as an electric that won the day.

May venture into it some day. Though today is a no shave day, as i feel out of my bed a little late, and rushed into work completely dishevelled.

I'm a Mach 3 man, though bic's come in hand if the M3 has turned into a cut throat, and i can't acquire one from the corner shop.

Razor Guard works by keeping the blade from deteriorating from water sitting on the blade after use. They sell it based on the blade being stronger than a hair so the deterioration can not be from use. No little pyramid here!

On dull electrics, you can buy new blades for them!

> The rotten thing just snapped at the foil head (the Braun that is)

Update:

Just got out the masking tape and put it back together. The rash from the foam 'n bare blade was getting too much and the family was avoiding me, blotched, hairy and muttering.

Only regret is I couldn't use duct tape. All out.

Anyway, half shaved and happy.

I've got a Panasonic ES7016 since summer. It's pretty cool, because you can use it for a dry shave or use foam and have a wet shave. It doesn't shave quite as close as the Mach 3 I used to use, but is much gentler on my skin. So if you've got sensitive skin, that might be a choice.

That sounds good as I have sensitive skin.

Which is better?

A. Foil shaver

B. Head (e.g. 2/3 head shaver)*

*I have this one.

Clippers to keep the beard neat and whatever cheap disposable is on hand for shaping.

No gel, cream, or water with the blade. So long as I'm fresh out of the shower my skin is razor burn free. (even shaving against the grain)

I'm gonna pass this information on to my wife. Silly her. She doesn't know what she's been missing for the past eight years. :)

Man, I've been dating the wrong women all these years. The only thing I heard was, I didn't know you could splash water that far from the sink.

I use a blade too. Those electrics just rub me raw in no time. The only thing different I do, is shave in the shower most of the time. Good hand soap works better than that sissy cream stuff any day ;-)

I used to use a sissy gel. One day I ran out. I borrowed my wife's gel. I liked its smell. I discovered that women's gel cost the same as men's gel. I now smell like passion fruit after I shave. Have I gone beyond sissy?

Okay, now that the shaving implement preferences have been covered, how many of you wear a beard or a mustache or both?

I simply refuse to shave everyday. After getting out of the service I made it a point not to. Now I keep a mustache and a beard and make it a point to keep them trimmed up. Haven't seen my chin in years. :)
