Some of the things I have noticed so far for future work by us/Yahoo:-
- The untargted pages from sites outranking the target page, eg the page linking with the anchor text ranks above the internal page. (Shame as this works perfectly on Yahoo.it/fr)
- Title tag devalued.
- random occurences of the keywords throughout the page is better than near phrase matching.
If these stay pretty much ends Yahoo as being a useful search engine for me - but who knows with Yahoo - but as .com has followed co.uk - it looks like the bad results are the future now.
I wonder if it is some Over Optimization Penalty Yahoo are trying - all it has really done has removed the most relevant searches from what I can see - hmmmz - oh well lets hope the update is still being rolled out and not all factors are in yet.
Yahoo! looks like MSN minus the subdomains.

Yep, that fits in.
Yahoo is returning losely matched results rather than tightly matched results of 7-8 days ago. So I guess if a Blog mentioned the term anywhere on the page in any order they will have come to the top - much like MSN does (and why MSN is so poor)
Now it has reached .com I wonder if there will be a little more intrest in this thread - esp from US members etc.
One of our listings dropped 200+ positions.
Can you get the proper/better results back when going to certain regionals and doing a web search:-
au.yahoo.com
Yahoo.fr
Yahoo.it
?

you're right... many of the sites in the top 10 are just directories that list other sites with good content. a couple of these sites actually list me in their "directory" but I'm down at #20!
and yes... no relevance! here's a great example :
type in "money making ideas" and you'll see a web hosting site at #18 (higher on some datacenters)... no relevance to the search term, and absolutely NO keywords on the front page!

I would say roll it back - but I am not sure that it is a rollback which is required - just seems like there are different sets of data floating around - after all this was first noticed on May 11th and has become more noticable in the last week or so when the cr@p set went on to .co.uk and then .com.
Yep I have seen this also even from internal pages linking to content pages where the linking page outranks the more relevant content page.
Anyway, there has been an influx of subdomain spam and, in a few cases, these subdomain urls redirect to an unrelated site.
I have sent some spam reports.
after almost 3 weeks, there was suddenly movement in the serps for my key phrase. serps cache finally reflecting my site's latest update and the i've moved up a couple of notches, but heck... those sites in the top ten... they just don't got no original content man!
and here's another funny thing...
type in "money making ideas" and a web hosting company appears in the top 10/20 (no relevance and absolutely no keywords).
type in "free money making ideas" and Yahoo! Geocities Webhosting appears in the top 10/20...
can anyone confirm that you see this too? conspirary theory (again?) : could Y! be sneaking in paid ads in the serps? i hope it's just a glitch...
Now Yahoo.com has the good results again for me. Cr@p is still on .co.uk......
Come on Tim, switch .co.uk back to the good results ;)
Combined with the slew of ads and garbage all over their results pages, they now serve a completely useless platter of steaming ---- to their visitors. I think I can hear the fat lady singing.

But we still have a couple of different versions of the algo about with Australia, Denmark, Italy and a host of other countries having good Yahoo results.
Yahoo.co.uk, Alltheweb & Altavista remains cr@p and .com switches between cr@p and good.

The depth of the index is the same on the good and the cr@p batches by the looks of it.
ATW, and AV completely different from yahoo.com.
They don't have the penalized/directory sites included.
To support my saying: one of our domains sell products on a very specific industry, we sell in US only (because our product can not be sold anywhere else) and our UK results are better which is kinda stupid considering that the top sites on US SERP's are just garbage...at best they are remotely connected.
Anyhow, one tiny update, not a real deep improvement every 5 months is unlikely to keep Yahoo with their current marketshare (already far bahind Google unlike they want us to think) for long IMO - I would be one of their investors I would worry big time when it comes to search.

Not what I am seeing depends on the search term I guess - but ATW and Altavista have losely targeted matches - meaning that directories and pages linking to the content are ranking better than the more targetted page.
I do not see the penalised sites on Yahoo.com
UNLESS
I do the search via anonymiser then I see the penalized sites appear. Must be on some DC that we don't see in Europe.
I must say it does feel good to see the ol site back in Y! even if it is a mistake or whatever.
