From Yahoo Search Blog: "We will be making changes to the ranking of our index tonight. I would expect that this update will be mild and quick compared to recent ones but will impact the ranking of some sites."

For one topic the official site and ours are the only websites dedicated to the topic. The official site has a lot of on topic backlinks and we have a lot of optimized content.
wow... I thought it was getting better because I had slowly moved from page 3 to page 2.
The official site is now #1. They got a directory listing.
My 1st page show (my about) has dropped to page 20. The site command shows my pages but caches are gone.
3 sites that stole content from me ( I successfully got them to remove most of it) are ranking on page 2 & 3 which really burns me up. They have no content on the topic except a heading or 2 compared to my 50 pages of original content.
I can't say I'm impressed with Yahoo these days.

Does Yahoo Directory (299 / year) submission help ranks?
Possibly, but I do SEO for three sites. One targets the most competitive web hosting terms. The other two target wedding favors and hair loss respectively. None are in the Directory. all three are top 5 and the web hosting site is #1 for 3 main keywords....
Does 301 redirect cause problems with Yahoo?
So far I havent seen it. If you recently (within last 3 days) experienced a drop my bet is that it does have something to do with the update. Of course, its possible to create an htaccess file incorrectly and in that case you could do some serious damage. Always use a header checker to make sure you 301'ed correctly...
I would agree with seeing that sitewide and unrelated links are helping to balloon ranking in Yahoo. I am not convinced that age of links is playing a major factor yet in Y!. The web hosting site I web for has only been online for less than a year....
What I am noticing is that Yahoo, similar to G, seems to be placing emphasis on links acquired from what Y! deems to be solid authority figures on subjects.
In addition those who moved, I'm affraid are usually spamming or buying text links for what I can see, now I'm trying to be abjective but with this crap it's difficult...
301 outbound tracking links behaving somewhat as 302 hijackings did a while back, ie:
Real Site title
reals site's description
http/mysite.com/301_outbound_tracking_link/?id=grr
I've found this happening with a few other sites as well. So far (at least on mine), these improperly indexed (non) pages are not coming up for anything in the serp.
Has me Very, VERY worried :\
I'm very curious to know what happened in this new update. Is it a reciprical link filter by chance?
My guess is that either results reverted back but I don't think so, my other guess is that we just see different datacentres since I am sure in a previous post it was mentioned that yahoo too have different datacentres.
Any update as to how this update is going would be great, then my heart may settle down!
