I'm seeing a big change too, I went from #1 - #11 and just about the whole top 5 places has been changed to web sites that used to be sites in 11-20 positions for my main keywords.

I had been in the top 10 since last July and #1 for the past two months, the site is very clean. I do have some other similar sites that definitely don't share content but have similar goals.

if this update is like any previous ones...sites that have good inbounds will get hit but slowly come back as sites are reindexed. also I am noticing that the engine cache is backtracking as much as a week...(another sign that they aren't finished with this one yet)

Today Slurp is making between 2 and 4 requests/second. Not terribly rude but Slurp seems to be in a hurry to re-index me. My SERPS are noticeably up also, as is Yahoo sourced visitorship.

These results are aligning with the other Yahoo channels.

He means.....ALTAVISTA, ALLTHEWEB, OVERTURE, etc....Yahoo search network affiliates.

I site i follow that was no#1 for a term has dropped to 31 but I have to say, the serps look clear of obvious spam, so it looks to be a nice improvement.

I currently see the same stale results that have been showing unchanged for a year and a half. My 2-word keyword combo is a is showing 164 mil results.

I still see yahoo canada showing something completely different than yahoo. Does anyone have an idea what is causing the difference in these two results in the algorithm.

Wow 14th on Google and 14th on Yahoo, that's weird.

(was about 35th on Y! before this update, too low ;))

it's just become embarrassing for y and msn when their search results are compared to google.

seriously wish there was competition, but as of now, don't see it.

Weird ebb and flow on this for me so far. But it seems to not be catching spammers with hidden links on non-related sites and hidden keyword urls at the bottom of the pages. Only looked for a couple of known black hat small players that are getting some premium traffic now. Although Google fell or rather still falls for that too though. It's a bummer actually playing "nice" sometimes...

oh well its a good thing I can crank up the holiday spend on my Yahoo Search Marketing Account to get more East African wire transfer orders.

Unfortunately MSN and Y are miles behind G.
Both in terms of traffic volume and quality of the search results (the 2 things must be releated :-)).
There is no competition what-so-ever.
Y ranking, for instance, is too much 'page title' and text link anchor based. For the sector I monitor G has far far better results. This is quite unfortunate because some real competition would benefit everybody.

With regard to Yahoo Canada, I have always seen the changes there first

still the worst SE out there, the results are just bad and been so all the time since they changed to inktomi, also when you have a top 1 position you dont get many hits, be cause almost no using yahoo search.

Also they just manual ban to many sites, I have seen many sites moved just be cause they where on the same IP or Block, how many here uses yahoo when you are searching for a software, products, bizz or just webmaster stuff, not many i bet be cause the results are bad.

Yahoo Canada is still the old results, so it hasn't been updated yet, if it will be at all.

Listen to what Tim Said, there are changes in progress, wait until they are finished before criticism, panic, or celebration.

Mac & Cheese is not good to eat until all parts of the recipe are completed. Same applies here. Check a couple of days after the update is complete before making any observations. Anything else is just watching the noodles boil, round & round.

Are they every going to let us change our directory title? It's killing my site on every update. My main site keeps dropping while my other smaller site rank better for the same key words. The only thing I can think of is the title is hurting my main site. The main site has more links, more content and has been around longer. It's in the top 5 for all my keyword(s) in Google and MSN.

As far as I can tell yahoo still needs a lot of work.

It has been a few years since I had a look at Y results. I gave up on trying with Y a long time ago. This thread caused me to have a look again.

Overall, the results look (as my mother used to say) "like a dogs breakfast". They are not even consistently bad/good. Dubious sites that have long ago been weeded out of the lead by most SEs are right there at the top, taking turns.

My sites actually do very well for some keywords. However, I would have expected a page1/position1 result to have sent me at least a few referrals. Being #1 on Yahoo ain't worth much to me.

OK - Back to refining my stuff for the big G.

I agree that one should not be making judgements before the "mac and cheese" is all done (but is mac and cheese ever really good?).
Anyhow, I do watch Yahoo, and for the past 2 weeks have noticed a drop in backlink counts for many sites that I monitor, including some of my own. Only sites that I know still use a link farming technique continue to show strong in Y! site explorer (BL count). Anyone see a dip in backlinks (like by almost half)? I also noticed a long delay in reindexing pages last month, now SERPs changing every 2 hours with a fresh cache. Merry X-mas (from Y!)... (unwrapping present) an algo adjustment, just what I always wanted (smirk, smirk). Actually I hope it is for the better, G needs serious competition from somewhere.
