Late last year, I had a different problem with a site and they responded to the request with a few followup emails. I'm just wondering if anything significant has changed within their search customer support group. I'm pretty sure I got an automated reply last year, but this year I haven't received any notice at all about my request.
The only thing I can think of is that we have a large links directory of over 3,000 links and from time to time, someone buys one of the legitimate domains from a lapsed domain in that directory and turns it into a spam site. (The directory itself is legit and something we've been maintaining for over 10 years.)
But with no feedback to help out legitimate site publishers like myself, it's real hard to try and figure out what the problem is. Hence the question -- are they still answering search engine support questions?
Search engines think they can operate in some bubble, cut off from the real world. I wish they spent more time interfacing with *all* of their customers (not just the consumers, but the publishers too).
The only time you ever hear from them in a forum like this is when they are trying to pump or sell something new.

Search engines are free to define what constitutes link manipulation. I think it's likely that in their view, a recip directory of that magnitude falls into that category. It may be legit to you, but in general with Google and Yahoo, something like that is looked at as an attempt to manipulate rankings though links.
I'm not saying this is what got your site banned or penalized (if that's what happened). But I'm pretty sure you can't pass a hand check with something like that. Who knows, there may be other issues with your site.
