Major SERPS Changes at Yahoo

Yahoo Update!

Finally after dont' know how much time Yahoo is showing some diffrenet resutls. I've some of my results on top for diffrent keywords of various categories.

Anyone has an idea when did Yahoo had such major changes last time.

Just to clarify: is this 'organic' SERP (ie. pages not in Site Match) or that Site Match pages are showing up?

BTW - can't see ANY rises for our clients phrases/pages :(

Our site did not even show up in Yahoo even if you put in our domain name despite it being an established site with hundreds of good quality links. Since Yahoo started displaying its own results we could not be found and I had it confirmed from Yahoo by email that we had been banned, although they did not say why. We now are back in but I won't shout about it until its been there a little longer!

I'm also seeing major updates of European Yahoos, in Germany, Denmark, and Spain. New pages indexed, and a new mix of sites in the SERPs

Quite a treat: the euro DB updates have been agonizingly rare.

Most of my terms went like this: from 10th-15th to 1st-3rd and now nowhere to be found. Anybody else have this happen? =/

edit to clarify - had been 10th-15th for months, yesterday or the day before went to 1st-3rd, now nowhere. cached page shows a page that hasn't been up for months.

Link popularity seems to play a more prominent role in this update than in previous months. Do you think so?

Yes I would agree with that.

We have seen our placement drop --- dramatically. Of the 45 keywords we monitor, none are in the top 100 any more, most are not in the top 300. We average 7th position in Google and have most in the top 5 and many in 1st.

Also, I noticed there are many totally irrelevant results, I mean just wrong, not even related to the original search, yet our results are gone.

Doing a "site:www....." shows that we have over 450 pages listed, but they just are not showing up in the serps.

Wish they would get their act together....

I used to have 150 pages indexed.... now theres only 27? This is what Yahoo was like about 3-4 months ago.

All of my top ranking pages have disappeared _completely_ from the SERPS

On one of our sites all of our pages have now been indexed and we have risen to the top on all phrases!

I am very pleased to report that Yahoo! and MSN combined are now delivering almost as much traffic as Google.

Is it possible Yahoo is trying to cool off competition for their travel biz?

Not from what I'm seeing, unless you're a 3rd party affiliate reseller, which most travel sites are. I think this update has done wonders for travel agent sites offering a genuine service.

It seems yahoo have managed to clear a load of affiliate nonsense from their serps - No prizes for guessing I'm happy with this update.

still don't see them indexing many deep pages.
The results are confined to Level 1,2,3 pages.

Our UK site is back in the natural search results at Yahoo.com, it varies between 8 and 70+ plus pages. No sign of our Australian .au site though which is disappointing. Will check ranking for keyphrases anon...

They seem to have cleared up the problem identified with redirects as some old errors no longer appear for link:http://www.ourdomains.

What do you base your statement on?

We still are in Yahoo serps.... just way down in the lists. They certainly have not banned us just relegated us to the bottom. A site:www.company.com search brings up over 400 pages in Yahoo

That was our position also...initially.

We are also travel sites.

At first we were apparently penalised, pages still in for search on url but nowhere in SERPS then we dissappeared totally. The UK site has just come back for url search but the AU site is nowhere to be seen for url search...

This looks like an old DB to me.

The reason: pages are popping up from a clients site which were taken down from the site approx 3 - 4 months ago!

Old pages, in new SERPS?

Can I ask again: is this Site Match submissions finally showing up as they should, or 'free submit'/spidered content without PFI which everyone is seeing appear in the SERPS?

Deleted "old" pages from sites have the tendency to stay on Yahoo's database for a LONG time usually. Sometimes I even see the deleted pages ranking better than "live" pages!

Same here. I have a site that was ranking #3 for my most desirable keyword phrase that moved up to #1 on Monday August 9th. On the next day, the site vanished from the Yahoo index. This is an established site with plenty of quality backlinks that has always ranked well in Google, Yahoo and MSN.

It does not look like the site got hit with a penalty as Slurp continues to hammer the site daily.

I always include a server side generated date on every page.

This way you can see the true date that the page was cached.

The date I see on most of my pages is:

Our pages are all 'free submit'/spidered

The UK site history of Yahoo inclusion:
the site is new and only just open to the search engine spiders June/July 04. It appeared in the Yahoo! search listings following 2 visits by slurp as follows:

First hit, at 2004-07-17 19:00:37 GMT+0 was to check our robots.txt to ensure it was allowed to spider us.

Second hit, 2004-07-17 19:01:33 GMT+0 was to the home page.

On 21st July 6,710 pages were returned for www.ourdomain.co.uk and then the site disappeared and returned to the listings with ~70 pages last week ( 13th, 14th Aug).

The old redirected pages have also gone from Yahoo listings.

But the Australia .com site has not been re-listed.

ok, our site shows 109000 backward links in Yahoo, but no posiibility to view all them. Yahoo doesn't show more than 1000 results. How can I proceed? With the fall og Google link command it became a problem for us to monitor our incoming links

Yep its removing aff sites alright, appears to have got it right where Google muffed up.

why do you need to monitor your links? There are much better things you can spend your time doing to make money and rank better. What could that information help you do.

If you really need them just check your log files there are a ton of them in there.

Today I had a deep crawl from Yahoo, but my updated pages still haven't appeared in Yahoo. I'm still seeing the old ones. Does anyone have any idea when the update will be finished?

It's odd really. One of my sites finally overtook the only site that used to rank above mine so I'm now in the #1 spot for my main keyword and related keywords. And yet the cache is from at least three months ago and contains pages that no longer exist.

here in the Netherlands I see on yahoo.com a lot of directory rankings on the first page results.
Do youhave that also at your please? i cant remember there where any directory results in it for the last year, was there?
