Site Dropped From Yahoo

Hi,

My sites use to rank very good on yahoo, no.1 and no.8 but last week they dissapeared from the yahoo, I haven't got a clue why.

The sites have also gone on www.msn.com both sites dissapeared on both search engines sounds a bit dodgy.

Can anyone give me some advice I

When yahoo implemented the change on the 18th Feb Most of my websites had good rankings to top search terms. But after 3 weeks some of the sites are gone from the top list.

What would be reason for this? Also most importantly most of my websites getting good rankings are not listed in the Yahoo directory.

My site has gone to number 3 on yahoo for my most popular (2 word search phrase), I'm not sure where it was on there before but I'm am pleased to be getting more traffic from their web searches.

Just lucky I guess as I have not optimised my page for Yahoo if that is possible anyway.

Although I used to rank about 40 - 50 on Google for my search phrase but after the last update, my site is nowhere to be seen unless I search for it specifically.

Why do you think that listing in Yahoo is not making any impact on Yahoo rankings? Do you have any idea of the factors that Yahoo uses in ranking websites?

Yahoo have a list of guidelines that they say covers editorial review. The guidelines are a catch all and raise a smile when you browse the sites actually welcomed into the index and then compare them to some of those excluded for life. The directory is simply that, a directory. It has no influence on the serps other than Yahoo saying they crawl it.

having your listing in the directory has nothing to do with your Y! ranking. As I mentioned earlier - my competitor vanished from Y!'s index completely and the only link that he has is in the Directory, but it doesn't rank him anywhere anymore.

for me the answer to the above is no. Its clear to me that when a human reviews your site in some cases they would need knowledge of the subject to recognise unique content. For me i believe this is a factor.

I have just noticed that I still get trafic from Yahoo - just not to the front page that I have sumbittet to SiteMach. Appernttly it has been removed from the search index.

is it true that if you do a search for your domain and all the pages are there, yet if u do an exact search for your titles on the domain, you dont show up, you're being penalized 100%?

The test I used to see if my site was penalized was to search my homepage's exact title (which includes mydomain.com). The results showed about 30 sites that linked to me, and my site was last.

very common to hear that. So far Yahoo have made no comment whether anyone may or has been penalised for incorrectly identified identical content. Most of us with a penalised site find other redirects from other sites to us indexed as actually being our pages.

Well actually I found one in my own site(incorrectly identified identical content) and put that in evidence in this post: [webmasterworld.com...]
firstly nobody was interested in it, suddenly it went private, so we non-member canīt follow it, not even me, although I started it, and did the research to find it. Would really liked to see the opinions about what I found.

Interesting. My title is unique to my site. I did the same and got similar results.

I donīt know if work to check if you are last...
I search for mine, and I am not last, there are maybe to many results..

But what I found is that FFA pages are not penalized by yahoo, maybe not ranking well donīt know, but they are in.

Yep, some sites linking to my site with redirect links show as they were my site with my content (when search for "mysite" name. But my site is nowhere to be found when searching for "mysite" name(except if searching for "mysite.com").

Why?

B/c so many sites were hit at once near the same time. Unless they have a very large editorial team, I don't see how so many sites could be affected at once.

I have a site that is a product category leader on the internet (in sales/ranking). We have been in the top five for "product category" since 2001 (usually #1). Now, we are no where to be found.

There is an affiliate of ours that hasn't seo'd their site in the past 2.5 years. And now, their site is ranking decently.

My experienced guess is that it is a linking penalty of some sort.

There are at least two and probably three different phenomenon at work and they are very different.

Some people have human spam-type judgements against their sites.

Some people have had main page (usually) listings dropped (non-human) because other pages link to them via a redirect and Yahoo is backwardsly ranking the redirecting link page rather than the "real" page. (There probably is at least one variation on this basic phenomenon.)

People are mixing and matching these two, but they are really totally different phenomenon, even if the result (page ranked last for serps) is the same. The first involves judgement; the second is a clear mistake (that I assume Yahoo is working to fix).

Regarding this 301 redirect bug, I believe I read somewhere that Yahoo is working on fixing it.

Regarding the issue where sites do not come up for their own company name (or unique title), I don't think this is a manual penalty. there are too many sites with the same issue.

I have only one site so no, I do not have interlinked sited and yes, I seem to have beem penalized.

Our domain doesn't even show up when I do a search using it's name. Every backlink page and more do though. All because of old Ink penalties another Mom and Pop is about to cease to exist...
