I am having problems with notifications. Is this a result of the upgrade?

Not sure if this bug is listed:

When moving a thread from one forum to another, the "Moved:" stub does disappears from the original forum index (even though it still exists).

    Example:

    [webmasterworld.com...]

Is missing from the HTML forum index [webmasterworld.com] (thread moved to Javascript [webmasterworld.com] forum.)

Also, the profile of members having posted in the original thread does not show the new thread link, only the "Moved:" URL. See Tonearm [webmasterworld.com]'s profile for example.

Another (minor) post move bug - once the move is completed, the "Return to the source forum" link actually points to the destination forum instead of the source forum. :)

Custom code insert in System Preferences allows us to use the magical "(forum)" keyword. This keyword is replaced using the previous forum numbering system as opposed to the new keyword. I am not sure if this is an issue or not but is causing some problems for bill when he was figuring out Howto add "Reset Last Read Pointers" link [webmasterworld.com].

Didn't see this mentioned. Post # in thread doesn't look right. It's a very large number like #:3002316 instead of #:1, #:2 etc.

bunltd: read the new features post. That is the new serial numbers for each msg.

Coop/Bill - see stickymail with response - just switch the filename to the new name.

I can confirm that notifications seem to be broken again.

And at least once when posting, the "Do you want an email notification of new replies?" checkbox has been missing, but it's not consistently gone...

    Quoting myself:

And at least once when posting, the "Do you want an email notification of new replies?" checkbox has been missing

This looks like a feature in fact, but if it is, it's an annoying feature. To reproduce:

    • Start typing a reply to a message,
    • Click the preview button,
    • Look for the "Do you want an email notification of new replies?" checkbox--it'll be gone.
    Pretty unforgiving, no?

In that case, can we please have our post count back (post # within that specific thread)? Not sure if/why the serial # needs to be visible, but it sure is handy being able to refer to "post #12" of a given thread.

Not sure if/why the serial # needs to be visible,

In the same vein, On the active list it is down right ugly, it's there if "Show member that started thread" is set to yes in active list prefs, and it's a much bigger font size than author details so it's a bit distracting ;)

+1 for bringing back the post counter too please

    > refer to "post #12" of a given thread.

And if a it was message #341 of a 500 msg thread - where msg 200 was spam - suddenly the numbers were wrong.

Which would often lead to the wrong message getting nuked, edited, moved, or spliced. It was a source of never ending confusion and error for mods and admins. Alot of the problems we have seen with threads have been because of that single problem. What's more - it was often buggy and the number would not jive with what was shown on the index page for that forum.

Ya, it is a pain to have to refer to a longer number, but I think what we can do is say something like

caveman...2823 in the known issus thread... to id specific posts.

    > if show started by member

did not know that - fixed.

    I moved this thread
    [webmasterworld.com...]

it shows on the active under a different title ( MSN how can you get it so wrong? ) but listed in the php forum

I could probably fix it by editing the title but I figured I would tell you first ;)

The "Reset Last Read Pointers" link still fails in at least 4 forums that I am aware:
    1. Reported Posts
    2. Webmaster General
    3. Windows OS
    4. Link Development

If you are on the second page of a forum and then go back to the first page, it takes you to page0.htm. For example:

When you are at [webmasterworld.com...] and select the "1" link at the bottom, the resulting page is [webmasterworld.com...] instead of [webmasterworld.com...]

    <added>
In the same page list, "<<Back" brings you to [webmasterworld.com...] where "Next>>" points to the correct [webmasterworld.com...]
    </added>

Recommend thread feature, on the final "The email has been sent" page has options "Where to now?". The "Back to this thread" link leads to a 404 as it uses the old forumNNN format.

Same as g1smd and rj87uk, and my active threads are gone etc. I only checked in a couple of times in the last few days - saw things were wonky but thought it was the WW server messing up - eventually posted in a thread for the first time in a while, and just hit relative blankness. Figured I'd best check here. Best of luck with it, Brett.

    >> it shows on the active under a different title

I moved another thread and the same thing happened, it picked up the title of the thread above it on the active but the thread itself is fine. Once the thread is replied to though all is well.

Moderator notes format seems to have a nesting problem:

When referring to a forum without a trailing slash, I was previously redirected with a 301 redirect to the forum with slash. For example:

    www.webmasterworld.com/forum30 redirected to www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/

Now, about 25% of the time I get the custom 404 page (the one with the screaming painting at the left).

I checked this with the WebmasterWorld header checker available in the old SEW tools, and this is my response.

    Server Response: [webmasterworld.com...]
    Status: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
    Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2006 06:57:21 GMT
    Server: Apache/2.0.52
    Vary: Accept-Encoding
    Connection: close
    Transfer-Encoding: chunked
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1

Most of the time I receive however the proper 301 return code:

    Server Response: [webmasterworld.com...]
    Status: HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
    Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2006 07:03:07 GMT
    Server: Apache/2.0.52
    Location: [webmasterworld.com...]
    Vary: Accept-Encoding
    Content-Length: 325
    Connection: close
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

Good catch, lammert! Same problem with the new keyword URLs, but there is never a redirect:

    [webmasterworld.com...]

All lead to a 404 when the trailing slash is omitted.

I am no longer getting 'Reply Post Notification' email messages for threads I have posted a reply in.
The no-notification-checkbox-on-preview doesn't seem useful to me.

I am sometimes seeing blank pages (ie top bottom and col, but no actual posts) after I submit a reply. I think its to do with the start-a-new-page-after-n-posts counter, but am not sure.

(If you want me to clarify the above, you will have to sticky me because... I am not getting email notifications of replies ;))
