According to the latest trends information from Gartner, shipments of devices, which include PCs, tablets and mobile phones, are showing the trend of declines of 13.6% in 2020, and the company is citing the current coronavirus pandemic as the main reason.

“The forecasted decline in the PC market in particular could have been much worse,” said Ranjit Atwal, senior research director at Gartner. “However, government lockdowns due to COVID-19 forced businesses and schools to enable millions of people to work from home and increase spending on new notebooks, Chromebooks and tablets for those workers. Education and government establishments also increased spending on those devices to facilitate e-learning.”

One factor in the research which always surprises me is phone lifetimes: It says it's extending from 2.5 years to 2.7 years. Wow, I usually keep my smartphone for at the very least, until it fails. Currently, this one is five years old, although I have noticed the battery performance is declining.

I usually keep my smartphone for at the very least, until it fails. Currently, this one is five years old, although I have noticed the battery performance is declining.

My first mobile was Nokia 6085 which was 2G. Faultless. I still use it for reminders and alarm settings [cooking].

Then two years ago my ISP notified me that 2G would soon be closed down and I needed a3G phone - free SIM. So one of my daughters gave me her surplus Samsung Galaxy 6 which I upgraded software to Samsung Galaxy GT-I9507 from GT-19501. I have since spent $A15 on a 4G SIM card for it.
I have noticed the battery performance is declining.

Yes well I upgraded my battery and I also cheaply constructed a DIY charger pack for it for when I am away from 240V power.

As we love to say down here in OZ - "Duz me"
