RSS Feeds: Current Benefit or Future Promise?

I've added RSS Feeds to a couple of sites and have done limited promotion of those feeds. I haven't detected much activity from them, and I'm curious whether working harder to promote them is worth the effort. (They are both specialty content sites with good quality, original articles added multiple times per week.)

In short, are you seeing significant current traffic and/or linkage benefits from making a feed available? If so, for what general category of site? And did you promote it primarily on the site and/or do submittals to feed aggregators? Or is effort put into making feeds available now primarily aimed at benefits months or years in future?

That's the perspective from which I'm looking at it. I'm happy to get a basic service up and running now and just keep it simple and operational... so if and when RSS fever picks up I'll have something to build on.

I like the way that you can now have your RSS feeds available for subscription on MyYahoo! ... perhaps that will contribute to general public awareness?

That's kinda where I am with it. For now, it's more an issue of customer service to those who want it and use it than it is an issue of heightened traffic for me.
