Adsense vs. Hyperseek

Hi all, If anyone has any experience with Hyperseek and/or Adsense, I'd like to ask a question. I'm currently underway with a directory for a niche business. The debate I'm having is whether or not to go with Hyperseek or Adsense. The following is what I know:

Revenue: Hyperseek 100% me, Adsense very loosly defined if at all.

Technology: Hyperseek (PHP/PERL), Adsense platform independent. This actually is a selling point for Adsense, I would rather keep the programming in ASP.NET.

I guess it really boils down to revenue. Anyone have any insights on this or any plus/cons on either product?

Thanks, Dan

Dan,

You are comparing apples to oranges.

With Hyperseek, you will have to develop/maintain all of your admin functions to manage your ad space.

Adsense, you simply paste the code on your page, and the AdWords ads, automatically display, your revenues are automatically tracked, and your payment automatically processed.

I think maybe your question relates to:
Should you manage your own PPC advertising, or use a canned technology such as AdSense?

> Revenue: Hyperseek 100% me, Adsense very loosly defined if at all.

Costs of acquiring advertisers: Adsense 0% you, In-House 100% your cost.

Costs of billing advertisers: Adsense 0% you, In-House 100% your cost.

Broad Advertiser Pool: Adsense yes, In-House no.

Willingness of businesses to advertise with an unproven site, with unknown traffic levels: Adsense yes, In-house, no.

The proof is in the pudding. And in your particular pudding at that.

My experience, making a sweeping generalisation here (take with pinch of salt) is that experienced affilliate marketeers make more money going the DIY route than with AdSense. Emphasis on "experienced".

AdSense is great for plug and pay though.

You can always try both.

Excellent points. Just an FYI, I am an experienced programmer so maintaining the PPC system isn't a problem. I also, have had pretty good luck in the past at getting to the top of the heap.

Trillianjedi, your point is what I was afraid of, generating tons of traffic/clicks only to find out that I can barely pay the hosting costs from Adsense.

PatrickDeese, you are right it is an unproven site at this point. Guess I could always go Adsense to test the waters. If revenue is poor and clicks are high, convert my system to PHP/PERL and use Hyperseek.

Love this site, always great discussion. More comments welcome. Thanks!
