With all the affiliate search programmes out there, is the following a scenario that is possible and assuming it is, how will this affect brands and, more importantly, ROI for advertisers.

PPC engine X has a number of large search deals that may or may not remain on long term contracts. As a loss in large volume searches will affect advertiser confidence, clickthrough rates and therefore revenue/value of business etc., could X set up new search affiliate sites with every conceivable search term included within the sitemap or category areas etc. to capitalise on top notch SEO work.

This scenario would ensure they get listed pretty quick with a few well-groomed links to allow the search engines to find them and, again more importantly, rank them.

It's just a thought, but this type of scenario could be around the corner and could have some major implications ethically for advertisers I thinks!

I see this happening to some extend.. I had a client that had to send out some C&D's to a couple PPC engine affiliates for building pages (that showed nothing but ppc listings) that were targeted at their company name.
