Is using Excel a stupid idea?

Hi,

I have PPC campaigns with Google AdWords and Yahoo (Overture). I have between 500-1000 keywords which I bid on.

I have all the keywords, there descriptions, etc, on an microsoft excel spreadsheet. One for Google and another for Yahoo.

I want to add more keywords but it is time consuming putting them all in excel. I was wondering whether there are any tools which can be used to help organize PPC keywords better? I know it's against the TOS of this forum to namedrop, so perhaps some search terms would be good.

I have done a bit of searching but I don't seem to be able to find what I'm looking for. Some of the tools are either very expensive and have way more features that I need, and others require the info to be hosted on a third party site.

Any ideas?

What about Adwords editor have you tried it? i am not sure if you are looking for tool like it

I don't know anything about the AdWord editor, so I'll check it out - thanks.

Although i'm guessing it won't help with Yahoo.

Once you have your google account set up using Adwords Editor, you can do a bulk upload to Yahoo. It works slick. Save out your file to Excel. Save it as a unicode text file, but name is a .csv (just a little quirck). Then to go Yahoo and import file using their Import tool - it will put all keywords, ads, ad groups and bids together like your Google account.

Thanks Scott. I've now got AdWords Editor - it's neat.

I'm glad to hear about the Yahoo upload option. They've provided me with an excel template to use in the past, but this didn't have a groups/categories option, so all 800 keywords were 'unassigned'. It's very time consuming putting them in the correct categories in the Yahoo interface. So this should speed things up a bit.
