Advertising rates question

I'm looking about starting up a webpage in the near future and was wondering what kind of money can be on a strickly advertising-based site. Could someone tell me what kind of a website is equivalent to a 20 million hits per month webpage, and maybe ballpark the average revenue a 1000 hits generates.

First of all, no one measures site traffic in "hits".. Hit's was an old metric from the early days, that was a total of the page and every graphic, meaning if the web page had 30 grapics, then one request for that page, would log 31 hits...

Unique visitors is the metric that any paid search program charges by. "Unique" has different definitions depending on the paid search source.

Your question though, is too broad to apply any definitive answer.
