Local Host not Working

The page cannot be found

Hi guys

I have recently installed IIS on winXP SP2 but when i tried to open [localhost...] (and [127.0.0.1...] - giving HTTP 404 error "The page cannot be found"

For [localhost:8080...] - Cannot Find Server "The page cannot be displayed"

I have user name with NO Administrative rights, but i tried with admin login too but same problem.

please help to resolve this problem.

assuming the services are running have you eset the directory to the directory where the website is?

>start > settings >control panel > administrative tools > internet Information Services > > local computer > then right click default web site click properties choose home directory tab set the directory where your web site is

not an expert on this but worth a try

also is the home page a straight .htm file or a .asp or other extension? check Documents tab in the same properties screen

Hi YuviG,

Have you checked the Home Directory Tab for the Default Web Site in the IIS manager?

Try putting a default.htm or index.htm in that location.

EDIT: johnhh beat me to it, with a better description too ;)
