XP Pro, yes. XP Home, only by doing some less than friendly hacks.

Ok, i got it installed. Ive created an index.html page in wwwroot and it looks fine...

Do i need to install DNS services on this machine?

if you want others visit the pages on your iis,you should add an Adress record to the ip adress,in the domain setting.DNS services isn't indispensable.

IIS for windows XP Pro has FTP server built in, however I think you should disable it and get a program called servu they have a free version which would be perfect for your needs and has many more options.

Maybe it would be pertinent to ask what are you intending to do with this machine? run it as a web server? if so what are you going to host on it?

Well seeing that the IIS in XP Pro can only handle one site, its probably a personal site. Not shared hosting. However you could do multiple sites if you use xitami.com or apache on windows [httpd.apache.org...]

Lack of control panel though would be a pain.
