Are special symbols ignored by google?

Does it hurt to have a copyright or trademark symbol within the HTML

I am curious as to how a symbol such as © will affect keyword optimization.

Specifically, lets say people are searching for 'Widget Software', and I have that Keyword as a metatag, what if all the content on the page reads 'Widget© Software'?

Will that symbol be ignored when the spiders come home to roost?
