Keyword spamming

Did I put too many?

I am building my second optimized website. After my first one, I noticed I was able to get positions on Yahoo but I'm still not sure how to get into the top 10 on Google (is anyone anymore)?

Anyways, I am building pages with the primary keyword at the top, and then throughout the document, I have secondary keywords in bold headings.

For example, if I am building a page on widgets, I have a few paragraphs describing different kinds of widgets on each page, with their own headings.

So my page looks like this:

Primary Widget Keyword
Text describing widgets.

Blue fuzzy widget keyword
Text describing blue fuzzy widget keyword.

And so on. I built a page for every keyword, but the smaller keywords (under a thousand searches) I just used them as headings and content for the bigger keywords.

This is somewhat hard to explain so if you would like, ask me, and I'll sticky you the URL.

My question is this: through doing this, will Google or Yahoo think I am keyword spamming?

One piece of advice that i have to give you is to write naturally. Do not sit there and start counting how many keywords you have on your page. Write good content about the topic that your visitors are searching for. Remember that visitors dont come to your site to look at your content, they come to find their information.

As for placing on the top 10 with google, i would say to simply exchange links with other webmasters. Use the your keyword, or keyphrase as the linking text to place on the website you are trading links with. So if you wanted to improve rankings on your "Blue Widgets" page, you would exchange with other sites..and use blue widgets as your linking text. Hope this information helps.

When writing content you should allways keep in mind that that content will be responsible for users staying on your site or leaving your site.

So your primary goal is to convince users that your site contains usefull information to them and pursuade them to stay (don't fool them though, don't let them think you got the information when you don't).

Second thing is to GET people to your site. This can be done by optimizing your pages so it will get indexed good by SE's.
Make sure your page contains the words that people may use in a search engine when looking for information that is on your site.
Make sure the most important keywords are used on the most logical places (title, h1, h2, internal links).
Note there is a difference between "used" and "placed"!

When you've done that you've got a logical page for visitors that will also be indexed good by search engine's. Then there is also no need to check if you are spamming the SE's, because you are using `normal text`.

If you look at the page and you think "am I spamming the SE's with this page?" then you're visitors are likely to think that as well and they will probably leave your site faster.

Write naturally and you will be fine. Dont write for the search engines.

I have tried and tried to write naturally, but the keywords I'm trying to get listed under have a lot of competition and I'm still on the third page for some because the sites above me have spammed. I realise that eventually these will be removed, but they probably just release the same site under a different name putting me back to square one. I hate optimisation....
