I have read lots of opinions on this site regarding apropriate use of keywords and phrases when optimising for SE's. Can anybody tell me if i were to try and optimise a page for the phrases "blue widget, red widget and green widget", would i have to be careful of the number of times i use the keyword "widget", or will SE's take widget as part of a phrase.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, MacroChap:) I don't think you have to worry about using widget too much if the page is about three different kinds of widgets. Just try to mix up the way use the word widget - 'widget', 'widgets', 'widgeting (if you can), etc. And also change up the phrases, too - 'blue widget', 'widgets that are blue', 'blue, red, and yellow widgets' etc.

Be careful about using "widget" more than twice in tags like title and description.

If you have a SEO'ed domain name like www.green-blue.com, make sure that you don't have a title like 'Green-Blue.com > Green and Blue Widgets'

You will run the risk of Google filtering you out from the targeted phrases you choose to go for.

I am new here and have a couple of questions.

andy_boyd are you saying that if your website domain is www.bluegreenwigets.com your title should not read "Blue Green Widgets - We carry a large selection of blue green widgets at affordable prices."

Are you to exlude you name from the title even if it has your major keyword as part of your domain?

I'm starting to think that Google looks at grammar and rewards sites that use keywords logically.
