Ok so I was reviewing the logs and the search terms and found people were finding us for "bendable widget" in the serp's and I also saw "bendable widget" was a popular term for the internal search engine. I created a page specifically for "bendable widget" and two months later it's in #3 in the SERPs. So after florida I am #1 for it. So I look at the kei for "bendable widget" compared to "bendable widgets"

bendable widget - 2.34 kei, competing 6300
bendable widgets - 6.40 kei, competing 9600

normally I'd bail for KEI this low, hmm lets check sales...

last 30 days 12 sales $****.

Ok it's not going to put a downpayment on a new ferrari, but how many opportunities like this have I been dismissing?

I've always found kei a useless figure anyway - prooved to be right again.

Is it the free results? If yes then it's an AV (I think) estimate only.

All those figures are estimates. I'm not saying they are bad estimates, just that they are estimates and estimates are estimates.

Numbers were from full version, and i picked highest, to make my point.

Do you consider the KEI of 6.4 low? I usually go for everything above 1 and sometimes even slightly below 1. Higher KEI quite often means too low relevancy.

Can you explain this? I thought that the higher KEI meant that lots of demand and low amount of pages.

Does 'low relevancy' mean low ROI?

That's the theory, but I guess it's all just relative. I'll take a couple thousand in sales everymonth for creating two SEO pages and a few hours of analysis, thank you very much.

Same experience here. KEI is based on number of competing pages - which, to my mind, is often irrelevant.

I find that it's not how many competing pages there are - but who they are. I check the first few pages in the google SERPS and see who those competitors actually are.

Say I'm expecting my newly-created page to have a PR of 4. The first ten listings in the serps could have PR3 and not even be minimally optimized for the given keyphrase. Or the first ten listings could have PR6 and be highly optimized. Makes a big difference in the potential of the keyphrase.
