Hi Guys,

Sincerest appologies to those of you who are probably fed up by now of the same questions from us newbies!

I have had a number of conflicting advice (not from this board I must add!) regarding the selection of keyword(s) in order to increase your page ranking on Google.

I have subscribed to an affiliate site (I simply build the nav bars on my web site) and now need to know the correct way of marketing it on the WWW. I do however have the opportunity of building the site completely myself but this would then involve me sourcing an online credit card processor (another question for another time perhaps!)

A few additional questions I have with regards to KeyWords are:

1. Are fewer more accurate keywords best? and therefore I would assume more money!

2. What is the best method of choosing keywords (is there software that can help?)

I'll leave it at that for now as I really don't want to bore you any further.

Thanks in advance.

Howdy,

I'm in the same position, perhaps a little farther ahead. It would seem that you need to choose the keywords (there are several programs available. Send me a sticky)carefully, and they can be keyword phrases. Install them in the appropriate tag, title and several places in text on your index page. Make sure the content supports the placement of the keywords. Also, the links to other pages within your site should include the keyword(s) if possible, along with naming the linked page.
I completely stumbled across a PR1 for a combination. I actually had it shown to me by my webstats program as a referral. Now I've optimized my page for that phrase as well. Each page can be optimized for it's keyword also.

Hope that helps, and welcome aboard.

I would say more and more accurate keywords is best...meaning there are tons of keywords you can go after. Find as many as you can that are accurate. There is no limit. Just don't try to hit all of 'em on one or two pages!
Choose 2-3 per page. Make your content relevant to the keyword while offering your website visitor some actual valuable information about what they searched for.

2. What is the best method of choosing keywords (is there software that can help?)

I use a combination of Wordtracker, Overture search term tool, web logs, my imagination, other similar websites, synonyms, and just about any other source of search terms that I can dig up (news items, e-zines)

Choosing your keywords can be a very important step in optimizing for a successful website - don't quickie it.

Good luck!
