is this good for targetting the kw 'widget' or is this double kw domain a bad idea?

or for that matter what about widget-widget-widget.com?

Too narrow. I'd go for widget and one or two other words that describe the site and go together well. Words people would likely search.

Someone probably already has widget-widget-widget.com anyway.
