However, I just spent the last several hours running hundreds of keywords through Google Suggest (and recording the data) and now I'm not so sure I haven't been making a mistake by trusting Wordtracker too much.
Obviously Google Suggest is not meant to match Wordtracker in scope and depth and it is definitely a pain to collect data from it. But that is what I did and here is what I've found...
The only thing you can really use Google Suggest for is to check the relative popularity of search phrases you're interested in. In Google Suggest they are refered to as "Results". The compliment in Wordtracker would be the "Count". Correct me if I'm getting this wrong, but both "Results" and "Count" refer to the actual number of searches made using a given search phrase.
While you cannot directly compare the two numbers (since Google's "Results" are a vastly larger number than the Wordtracker "Count") you can still compare the relative popularity of each keyword phrase. IOW's both tools can be used to decide which keyword phrases are the most searched upon.
Bottom line, according to my research, what Google is telling me are the most popular phrases (in my little keyword universe) differs vastly from what Wordtracker has reported. There is some agreement, to an extent, but overall the differences are nothing short of huge.
I fully realize each tool uses different data sources. But isn't the whole idea of using Wordtracker (and its extrapolated data) to help us target the most popular keyword phrases (niches aside) in SE's, especially Google?
