Keyword organising in meta tags

With so many changes in google algorithm, just wondering what would be the best method to organise keywords in the meta tags.
Personally i prefer commas to seperate keywords in meta tags along with combination of key phrases. But i have also come across sites which use space to seperate their keywords.

Also is it better to use single words or combination of words while adding keywords in meta tag.

please let me know your valuable suggestions.....

I always set my keywords out like so:

keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword

I use both the comma and space as seperators.
