Hello guys,

I am wondering what is current status of general acceptance of meta keywords of search engines these days. My last info was about them mostly being ignored (especially by google). Is this still correct? Is there a primer post somewhere here to show some details? Any help appreciated :-) Thanks in advance :-)

Best wishes

Yep you are right. The keyword meta tag was dropped my almost all search engines a couple of years ago. It was simply far to open to abuse. Today the search engines rely mostly on what can be seen as on page cntent.

I've always found it odd that it is widely accepted that meta keywords are totally ignored by Google while they blatantly posts the meta description in near entirety directly on the SERPs.

Both tags are just as “open to abuse”, yet Google almost endorses one while ignoring the other?

google posts the meta description in the event it cannot find a relevant description in regards to the keyword. It may not use it for ranking just display purposes.
