Without posting the 'you know what' I personally use statcounter the pay for version. It always amazes me for the sheer diversity of search phrases that people resort to in order to find my site. Keywords are not just about placing them in your tags, they are the embodiment of text, expressions from within individual pages. I have something like 400 different search terms that seem to find me, and with my site being in the top 3 pages of every single SE you can name I no longer have to pay a penny in advertising (some very low cost ppc as backup) and generate literally millions of pounds per year in new business.

I've never paid a penny for advertising and achieve high rankings. Perhaps its because I promote websites for a living.

Yes, do you also promote the use of Forums to your clients? This is a hobby horse of mine, I'm in Forums across the globe, we in the UK are woefully unaware of the enormous potential that is out there for forum users.

I get the feeling that there may be some self promotion brewing.

I market and promote in relevant places, sites where mine and my clients will benefit.

I wouldn't dream of using this forum to promote my website nor give any clues as to the URL.

I use the many and various ethical marketing tools and tactics.

I don't spend money on marketing, I don't need to.

Self promotion brewing. Not from this quarter, I just happen to believe that the more businesses get into forum posting the better informed they would become. Besides which, how can self promotion even enter the equation?
I'll give you an example. On one very major forum we had a guy who posted and posted, he got his serps absolutely in tip top condition, huge backlinks and one day his boss said 'You are spending too much time posting in those forum things' - He left the job and the serps dropped within weeks and 90% of the BL's have gone.
